2 – Cactus Jack V Triple H (No Way Out 2000)
Mick Foley’s second entry on the list, and if you thought things couldn’t get as violent as the first, you’d be wrong. HHH and Foley had been locked in a very personal feud, and the only way for them to end it would be stepping inside one of wrestling’s most deadly structures. The stakes were high though, as if Foley lost, he’d be forced to retire. The two had an insanely good showdown at the Royal Rumble the month before, and somehow, they managed to top it. The action was quickly brought to the outside, as the two men fought tooth and nail to break the other. Cactus Jack hit The Game with a Piledriver through the announce table, seemingly in the drivers seat, but that didn’t last long, as Foley crashed through cell’s ceiling and hit the mat below. Hunter finished him off with a Pedigree for the win, ending Cactus Jack’s career in a heartbreaking moment. This match was fantastic throughout, the action rough and the emotions high. Triple H truly cemented himself as one of the greatest heels in the business on this night, whilst Cactus Jack left behind a legacy we’ll all remember.
1 – The Undertaker V Shawn Michaels (Bad Blood 1997)
Sometimes the first truly is the best. On the 5th October 1997, Hell In A Cell was born, and so followed a match that has never been topped to this day. Michaels battled Undertaker in a clash for the ages, with cell spots we see regularly nowadays sending the fans into a frenzy. Brutal whips into the chain walls, shots with weapons, dives through the ropes, bloodied faces. It’s all perfect. Michaels was on a fantastic heel run as champion, and seeing Undertaker launching him across every inch of the cell is just great. Michaels did all he could to escape Taker’s grasp, but there was nothing he could do when it came down to it. It’s not just action in this affair though, as the two men tell a clear story with every bump, every move, every expression. Every moment in this match is telling a story. Despite how much The Deadman assaulted HBK, the villainous heel snuck a victory, thanks to a newly debuting star. The Big Red Machine, Kane, made his debut, tearing off the cell door and attacking Undertaker, costing him the match. The perfect way to end the perfect match. The Deadman was a force of the nature inside those walls, and as you can tell by the other entries on this list, that still holds up to this day.
