It is now time for August 2026 best matches of the month list. Please keep in mind these are just my opinion of the best matches I saw this month and is not a definitive list and is not the official Wrestling Republic ratings and rankings.
I’m sure there are matches that I may have missed but there are only so many hours in a day and only so much wrestling I can watch. So, please feel free to suggest matches in the comments, as it is possible, I haven’t seen them or maybe they just didn’t make my cut. If I haven’t seen it and I’m able to check it out, it may make my end of year top 25 matches list. If it just didn’t make my cut, if I have time and I’m able to I’ll re-watch the match and re-consider it for my end of the year top 25 matches list.
The top 25 list at the end of the year will be in order.

*Technically took place in July, but didn’t see it until this month. It wouldn’t have impacted last month’s winner nor will it qualify for this month’s winner. It is eligible for the end of the year 25 matches list.
MATCH OF THE MONTH: Reigns vs Rollins – WWE Summerslam
Oh here come the pitchforks of how dare I chose this match over Ospreay vs Omega from All In? Storytelling that is why. Despite what the IWC will insist, the Omega vs Ospreay story stunk in the buildup. Arguing over covid procedures between NJPW and AEW six years ago and Omega is a heel only for Ospreay but not in AEW as a whole? Come on that is just lazy convoluted storytelling. No one bought this show over the covid procedure debate. Stevie Wonder saw Ospreay winning so there was no suspense here. Great match but there was a clear match that outshined this whether the IWC is willing to admit that or not, my list my winner.
Now for Reigns vs Rollins, you had history and a reason to be invested as Rollins said during the first promo to set this up that everything you accomplished in your career, I have always been that thorn in your side. You never got over my betrayal and you never beat me and this maybe your last chance since we are closer to the end than the beginning of our careers. That is a hook that gets the audience invested. Then they painted an absolute masterpiece in that ring that lived up to the hype. They didn’t overdo it, they for the most part did moves with a purpose and fit the story. Easily one of the best matches of the year.
