ROH TV Special July 28th 2026 Highs

This ROH TV Special, while far from setting the world on fire, did provide a reasonably entertaining hour of stakeless wrestling television. The opening was particularly enjoyable with the opening two matches both inventive and nicely paced. Alan Angels in particular had a good bout with Nick Wayne, a sprint of innovative spots and a lovely back and forth chemistry. With Wayne involved in a 3 way on Dynamite this week it could be a solid week for him in terms of ring performance.

A lot of wrestlers also brought their usual reliability, with expected good work from Maya World, Lee Johnson, Blake Christian and Lee Moriarty. Orange Cassidy even graced the show with his presence, proving an expectedly entertaining team with Dalton Castle and The Outrunners for an enjoyable, if throwaway, main event exhibition.

Finally, while story was expectently limited, it was nice to see a concerted effort to build Isla Dawn with a dominant win and backstage call out promo. A response promo from Red Velvet sets up a later match between the two. Simple and efficient storytelling

ROH TV Special July 28th 2026 Lows

This show felt exactly as throwaway as an additional YouTube insert can be expected to be. Most matches had limited to no stakes and even the best action didn’t blow the roof off. The energy wasn’t helped by a poor crowd, who only came alive for one or two talents through the night. Angels and Wayne, good as it was, was hampered by a crowd sat on their hands, meaning they could never build the energy they were trying to.

The only major dud of a match in my opinion was Adam Priest and Kiran Grey. As someone who hasn’t watched ROH in a while, I was very interested in Grey from his entrance and the build up from commentary about his unsettling past. Unfortunately the match was a plodding series of slow strikes before Grey was put away convincingly by submission, robbing the character of any intrigue while not really building up the technically sound but fairly bland Priest. Unfortunately ground the show to a bit of a halt.

Summary-

While heavily limited by its throwaway nature, this ROH TV special was a completely skippable but reasonably entertaining watch. A lot of the shows performers gave reliable outings and several matches (namely Janai/World, Wayne/Angels and the 8 man main event) were good fun to watch. A series of squashes followed by a dull Priest/Grey match ground the show to a bit of a standstill while the crowd sat on their hands all night, but the show knew when to raise the energy and ended on a nice high. A few small pieces of efficient advancement, but mostly a run of the mill match compilation and chance for lesser highlighted wrestlers to grab some more reps. Bring on the second, more important ROH show later in the week.

GOOD Luchasaurus and Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin and Sting:

Darby got double-teamed early in this match until he made a much-needed tag. Sting was on a roll, hitting two Scorpion Death Drops. One of them is in tandem with a Coffin Drop. In the end, Darby took advantage of a distraction from Nick Wayne to roll up Christian Cage.

Results: Darby Allin and Sting by Pinfall

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3 Stars

ABOVE AVERAGE Kris Statlander, Orange Cassidy, and Hook vs Anna Jay, Matt Menard, and Angelo Parker:

The former JAS showed good teamwork when Menard and Parker combined a dropkick and a running knee. Jake Hager tried to interfere on multiple occasions but the second one backfired on him. In the finish, Orange Cassidy hit Angelo Parker with an Orange Punch to score the win.

Results: Kris Statlander, Orange Cassidy, and Hook by Pinfall via Orange Punch

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

A QTV segment that ended with Johnny TV as QT Marshall’s tag partner instead of Aaron Solo.

ABOVE AVERAGE Chris Jericho Confronts Sammy Guevara and Don Callis:

Sammy ripped into Jericho and the fans for their inconsistent support. Jericho came to the ring and was greeted with a chair from Takeshita and almost got a screwdriver to the head. Luckily for him, Kenny Omega came to his rescue. Backstage, Kenny and Jericho formed a temporary alliance to take down the Don Callis Family.

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

GOOD Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta vs the Kingdom vs the Righteous vs the Hardyz for a shot at the ROH Tag Titles:

The Hardyz tried to establish a short-term alliance with the Best Friends but the attempt was broken up when they tried to group hug. The Kingdom nearly stole the match after a low blow and a piledriver to Chuck Taylor but Beretta broke up the pin. In the finish, Jeff Hardy went for a Swanton Bomb but Vincent tagged himself in just as Hardy was jumping. Now the legal man, Vince landed a Swanton Bomb of his own to pick up the victory. After the match, the Kingdom continued their assault on the Best Friends

Results: the Righteous by Pinfall via Swanton Bomb

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3 Stars

GOOD the Dark Order vs. the Acclaimed for the AEW Trios Championships:

The Acclaimed were in control of this one early and had John Silver set up for Scissor Me Timbers but his Dark Order colleagues saved him. The Dark Order controlled a lot of the match from then on and nearly won the titles after Evil Uno used one of the belts as a weapon. Caster countered a stunner and the Acclaimed picked up the win after an S4

Results: The Acclaimed by Pinfall via S4

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

ABOVE AVERAGE Skye Blue vs. Julia Hart:

Blue had the early advantage after a snap suplex and a flurry of punches but Hart quickly fought her way back in. The House of Black member really secured their match with a superplex off the top. From there, she secured Hartless to secure the submission victory. Julia Hart continued the hold after the match until Willow Nightingale came to the rescue.

Results: Julia Hart by Submission via Hartless

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 2.5 Stars

In a promo, Jay White told Andrade he is lucky to have his name mentioned in the same breath as Jay White.

SQUASH – Mike Santana defeated Bronson of the Iron Savages in his first singles match since returning from injury. After the match, he had an intense confrontation on the ramp with his former tag partner, Ortiz.

GREAT the Mogul Embassy vs. the Elite for the ROH Six-Man Championships:

The Bucks held Kaun on the edge of the ring while Hangman Page hit a shooting star press. They tried to follow it up with a BTE Trigger but were distracted by the entrance of Swerve Strickland. Later, Page attempted a Buckshot Lariat but Cage countered with a waterwheel drop. Page nearly won the titles after a double lariat and a deadeye but Cage kicked out. In the finish, Hangman countered an attack from Brian Cage into a roll-up to pick up the victory and the win ROH Six-Man Championships for the Elite.

Results: The Elite by Pinfall

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3.5 Stars

Overall…

This was a pretty good episode of Rampage: the matches were pretty good and a few stories were advanced. The highlight of the night was the main event that saw the elite become ROH Six-Man Champions. The low point was the Skye Blue-Julia Hart Match. Wasn’t bad but also wasn’t that good.

The matches, especially the main event, were very good but none of the matches were amazing. The show structure was good but a few segments, such as the squash and Blue-Hart match, slowed it down. The atmosphere was good but was lacking at times. A couple of stories were advanced including the TNT title feud and Hangman-Swerve feud but nothing exceptional. Finally, the show was high quality but had no theme to set it apart.

GOOD Rey Fenix vs Kommander:

Kommander disrupted a tope by jumping on the ring apron but Fenix still delivered some damage via kicks. Later, Rey Fenix delivered a diving double stomp but failed to make the pinfall. Impressively, Kommander reversed a powerbomb into a hurricanrana and then nearly pinned Fenix. The highlight of the match came when Kommander sprung off the top rope to hit a Canadian Destroyer. Despite the valiant effort by Kommander, Rey Fenix eventually put away his opponent to win the match.

Results: Rey Fenix by Pinfall

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

Dr. Britt Baker reminded us that she was the first woman to sign with AEW and will once again become AEW Women’s Champion.

ABOVE AVERAGE Ethan Page and Brother Zay vs Aussie Open for the ROH Tag Team Championships:

Aussie Open was in control for most of the match, sandwiching their opponents back first into each other. Finally, Page turned the match around and tagged in Zay. Brother Zay delivered a flurry of offense but lost momentum after Kyle Fletcher got his knees up to counter a Swanton Bomb. Aussie Open incapacitated Ethan Page with double super kicks and then finished off Brother Zay with a Coriolis. After the match, Aussie Open sent a message to MJF and Adam Cole the message that they have no shot of winning the titles

Results: Aussie Open by Pinfall via Coriolis

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

The Hardyz are after the ROH Tag Team Championships, calling out both Aussie Open and Better Than You Bay-Bay.

SQUASH – Sammy Guevara picked up a quick victory after hitting a GTH.

GOOD Toni Storm and ruby Soho vs AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida and Skye Blue:

The Outcasts took an early advantage thanks to attacking Blue and Shida before the bell rang. Skye Blue got in little offense as Soho and Storm dominated the early part of this match. She and Shida fought their way back, despite cheating by the Outcasts in the form of spraying paint in Blue’s eyes. It wasn’t enough, as Hikaru Shida used a jackknife pin to pick up the victory. After the match, Brit Baker joined the four in a brawl.

Results: Hikaru Shida and Skye Blue by Pinfall

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3 Stars

Overall…

This was a pretty good episode of Rampage. The matches were decent and some feuds were advanced. The highlight was the opening match between Rey Fenix and Kommander. The low point was the squash match.

The matches were ok but none were better than good. The show structure was ok but the main event wasn’t the best match on the card. That honor was by far the Fenix-Kommander match. The atmosphere was very good as always with AEW crowds but wasn’t the best. A few feuds were advanced but nothing exceptional. Production quality was good but there was not a theme to this episode.

GREAT El Hijo Del Vikingo (Champion) vs Komander vs Dralistico for the AAA Mega Championship:

Dralistico nearly pinned Komander and got upset at what the crowd was chanting at him after the kick out. Once the champion got back in the ring, he hit Dralistico with a beautiful hurricanrana and followed it up with a phoenix splash. Amazingly, Komander ran all the way across the top rope to flip onto his opponents on the other side of the ring. At the end of the match, Hijo Del Vikingo had Komander and Dralistico arranged on a table. The champion delivered a 630 senton but Dralistico moved, leaving Komander as the sole recipient of Hijo’s move. Dralistico thought he had an easy chance to finish off Hijo, who hurt his back on the senton, but the champion countered and pinned Dralistico.

Results: Hijo Del Vikingo by Pinfall

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

Jeff Jarrett and company are confronted by Mark Briscoe and Aubrey Edwards. Karen Jarrett and Aubrey have heat from the pay-per-view.

GOOD Action Andretti vs Zack Sabre (Champion) for the NJPW World Television Championship:

Sabre was focused on manipulating Andretti’s wrist early in the match. Action Andretti got some space finally to start some of his high-flying offense but the champion regained momentum and again targeted the limbs of Andretti. Later, Action Andretti countered Sabre’s submission attempts with a hurricanrana off the turnbuckle. The defining moment came when Zack Sabre countered a move by Andretti from the top rope by putting him in an arm bar. The reigning champion wrapped up both of Andretti’s arms to prevent a rope break which forced Action Andretti to submit.

Results: Zack Sabre by Submission

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

GOOD Emi Sakura vs Willow Nightingale (Champion) for the NJPW Strong Women’s World Champion:

Sakura took the early advantage as she drew the champ out of the ring and cross-bodied her into the barricade. Back in the ring, Willow nearly pinned Emi Sakura after a cannonball in the corner. In the finish, Willow Nightingale pinned Sakura after a powerbomb to retain the title.

Results: Willow Nightingale by Pinfall via Powerbomb

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3 Stars

GOOD Lee Moriarty vs Katsuyori Shibata (Champion) for the Ring of Honor Pure Championship:

Moriarty used his first rope break relatively quickly to break an arm hold by Shibata. Lee Moriarty got in some offense with an elbow strike and a dropkick. After this, Moriarty used his second rope break after Shibata had him in a figure four leg lock. He used his last rope break before Katsuyori Shibata had used one. To finish the match, Shibata put Lee Moriarty in a sleeper hold and finished him off with a kick to the face. After the match, former ROH Pure Champion Daniel Garcia came to the ring, hinting that he wants the title back.

Results: Katsuyori Shibata by Pinfall

Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

Overall…

This was one of the better Rampages in a while. Top to bottom the matches were all good. The highlight of the show was the triple threat match for the AAA Mega Championship. Great action throughout and creative offense by all involved. Lowpoint of the show was the match for the NJPW Strong Women’s Title. The match was decent but it didn’t compare to the other matches on the card.

The matches were all good but outside of the opening match, none quite reached the level of great or above. The show structure was good but the best match came at the start of the show and was significantly better than the main event. The atmosphere was pretty good but wasn’t fantastic all throughout. Storytelling was fine with Daniel Garcia set to be the next challenger for the ROH Pure Championship but many of the other matches involved titles from other promotions so it’s unclear what comes next for a lot of them. Production was good but no special theme.

Show Structure: 0.75/1 Stars

Atmosphere: 0.75/1 Stars

Last night was not Cage’s night, as he lost a match on Dynamite to Konosuke Takeshita. Today, however, is the Machine’s 38th birthday. In honor of his birthday, Brian Cage is today’s Wrestler of the Day.

After wrestling on the independent scene, Brian Cage signed a developmental deal with WWE and spent time in Florida Championship Wrestling. While he was released in 2009, Cage continued to have success on the indie scene, winning championships across the US, Japan, and Mexico. This led to him joining PWG and later Impact (then TNA). During one of his stints in Impact, Cage defeated John Morrison to become the Impact World Champion.

Cage made his AEW debut at Double or Nothing in 2021, winning the Casino Ladder Match to earn a title shot. While he didn’t win the AEW World Championship, he was named FTW Champion and became the original member of Team Taz. The Machine held the unsanctioned belt for 377 days until losing it to Ricky Starks.

After leaving Team Taz, Cage featured less prominently on AEW programming. He has since moved to the AEW-owned Ring of Honor. With Prince Nana as the manager, he teamed with Kaun and Toa Liona to win the Six-Man Tag titles at Final Battle. He recently featured in the MJF-Bryan Danielson feud, receiving a payday from MJF in return for attempting to injure Danielson.

In his twenty-plus years with ROH Jay Briscoe and his brother became the most decorated tag teams in ROH history. Winning more titles and holding them for more combined days than any other team. Chris Jericho has been one of AEW’s pilar since their foundation, and there is no doubt of his value.

This a value that TBS is very aware of, as a top act for the company and ratings.

According to a report by the Wrestling Observer, some TBS directors were against Jericho being on a non-AEW pay-per-view.

The initial plan by Tony Khan was that Jericho vs. Claudio Castagnoli would close out ROH Final Battle on December 10, but the AEW owner has to push back his idea.

Dave Meltzer reported that SVP Sam Linksy and the TBS brass were initially against the original idea.

There were various plans, like Jericho losing lose in his four-way match at Full Gear to Castagnoli.

This idea also depended on the future of the Blackpool Combat Club, if Castagnoli lost his Final Battle fight, he would have had to join the ranks of The Jericho Appreciation Society.

Jericho started his ROH reign by defeating Castagnoli.

He also, defended his title several times against iconic ROH names like Dalton Castle, Bandido, and others.

Jericho finally was defeated by Claudio Castagnoli at a historic event and match at ROH Final Battle 2022 PPV.

After the loss of the championship, it seems that Jericho is on a winless streak in the ring.

Jericho was defeated by Action Andretti at Winter is Coming this past Wednesday at AEW Dynamite.

A victory that meant an AEW contract for the 24-year-old wrestler.

However, there is no doubt that this year was one of the best in Jericho’s career.

Proving that age is not an obstacle.

Sami Zayn Biography:

Birth Name: Rami Sebei

Age: 38 (July 12th, 1984)

Height: 6’1

Weight: 212 pounds

Debut: 2002

Place of Birth: Laval, Canada

Accolades: 1x NXT Champion, 3x WWE Intercontinental Champion, 1x ROH World Television Champion, 1x ROH World Tag Team Champion, 2x PWG World Champion, 5x PWG World Tag Team Champion, #23 on PWI’s Top 500 in 2015

On December 16th, 2012 El Generico (Sami Zayn in the WWE) wrestled his final match with Ring of Honor (ROH). In the match, Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens) defeated Zayn in a failed effort to win the ROH Championship. In honor of this and Zayn’s soon-to-be big night, he is today’s Wrestler of the Day.

Making his debut on the indie scene in Canada, Sami Zayn came to prominence for his work as El Generico while working for Pro Wrestling Guerilla (PWG), Chikara, and Ring of Honor. While it may surprise some fans in WWE, Zayn actually wrestled with a luchador-style mask when he was El Generico. Across each of these promotions, he frequently involved himself with his fellow Canadian and future WWE coworker, Kevin Owens.

In January of 2013, he signed with WWE, where he adopted the name Sami Zayn. Zayn started off in NXT, holding the NXT Championship for over two months until he lost it to long-time rival/friend Kevin Owens. Upon joining the main roster, Zayn became a staple of the main roster, winning the Intercontinental Championship three times and entertaining fans with his goofy persona and conspiracy theories. Currently, Sami Zayn is aligned with The Bloodline and played a critical role in their WarGames win. Stay tuned to see what Jey Uso could mean when he said that tonight is a big night for the Honorary Uce.

Roxanne Perez Biography:

Birth Name: Carla Gonzalez

Age: 21 (November 5th, 2001)

Height: 5’1

Debut: 2018

Place of Birth: Laredo, Texas

Accolades: 1x NXT Women’s Champion (Current), 1x NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, 1x Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, #28 on the PWI Women’s Top 150 in 2021

For the past few years, Roxanne Perez has been a rising star in women’s wrestling. Last night on NXT, that hard work paid off as she defeated Mandy Rose to become NXT Women’s Champion. In honor of Perez becoming champion, she is today’s Wrestler of the Day.

Perez is a lifelong fan of professional wrestling, starting her training when she was a teenager. Perez’s career took off after she trained with Booker T and his Reality of Wrestling promotion. Her success at ROW led to her signing with Ring of Honor (ROH) in 2021.

Perez immediately made an impact in ROH, winning the tournament to become the inaugural Ring of Honor Women’s Champion. This win made her one of the youngest champions in company history. While champion, Perez faced future AEW star Willow Nightengale before losing the title in a winner takes all match with AAA Reinas de Reinas champion Deonna Purrazzo.

After ROH went on hiatus, Perez signed with WWE in 2022. She achieved near-instant success as she won the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament, earning a title shot against the champion of her choosing. Perez then teamed with Cora Jade to win NXT tag team gold before challenging for the NXT Women’s Championship. This pursuit was disrupted when Jade turned on Roxanne Perez, costing her a shot at the title. Luckily for her, however, Perez was not deterred as she went on to win the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge. This resulted in her title win last night, ending Mandy Rose’s 413-day reign.
