WWE Legend and Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a serious medical emergency on Monday. He is now recovering in a Florida hospital after undergoing surgery. It was first reported by Florida TV station Action News 5 who stated the 73-year-old WWE Legend had suffered a stroke in his Fort Myers, Florida, home.

Although it was initially reported as a stroke, Dave Meltzer is reporting it was not a stroke, but a blood blockage to the right side of Lawler’s brain. Meltzer also reported that Lawler was found outside his home face down and was rushed to the hospital.

No further update has been given regarding Lawler’s health. Meltzer said Lawler awoke from surgery and tried to talk, but couldn’t and has no feeling on the right side of his body.

Dutch Mantell took to social media later in the afternoon and tweeted that Lawler had regained some use of his arm, but his speech is still affected. Optimistically Mantell said “but he’s improving” about the WWE Hall of Famer.

It was noted that WWE is in contact with Lawler’s son Kevin who is flying to Florida to be with his father.

Jerry Lawler Has Wrestled With His Health

He has dealt with health issues in the past, including both heart and a stroke back in 2018. Most notably he suffered a heart attack that nearly killed him during an epsiode of WWE Monday Night Raw in 2012.

Lawler had competed in a tag team match earlier in the evening. The heart attack occured after the match, when Lawler returned to his seat to resume commentary.

Lawler was last seen on WWE TV during the Royal Rumble pre-show.

The King Still Wrestles Indie Shows

Although he has past health issues, Lawler has remained active in the ring still working indie shows. His last match was in January, before that he wrestled ten matches in 2022, primarily in the Southeastern U.S.

AEW has been in a big trouble with the CM Punk and The Elite controversy which arose from events following All Out media scrum. Punk went on a rant in press event and slammed Colt Cobana, Hangman Page and EVPs Young Bucks and Omega.

This led to a backstage brawl between the Elite and CM Punk who was with Ace Steel. AEW temporarily suspended all the individuals involved. With the reports being that they’re considering to fire CM Punk.

Dave Meltzer from WON reported that AEW will be looking to buy out CM Punk’s contract. But wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell believes it might not be as simple as it looks.

Mantell was speaking on Smacktalk where he said that he still thinks CM Punk will still be suing AEW president Tony Khan. He said that CM Punk is looking for an edge and he’ll see Tony Khan as an opportunity.

“Here’s CM Punk, he has been in the wrestling business… he’s a little bit, got that little shady side to him anyway,” he said. “He’s looking for the edge, he’s looking for the slope, and now he see Tony Khan, billion dollars, he’s worth over a billion dollars…. And he is thinking well this buying out the contract may not be enough.”

“I think he is still gonna end up in a lawsuit. I still believe that, they can talk all they want. And he can say whatever came in there and he could claim this and this. That’s what AEW doesn’t want. They don’t want to take it down to a lawsuit.”  – h/t ringsidenews

Alberto Del Rio was released in August 2014 due to “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.” This was before his return in late 2015 when he captured the U.S. title against John Cena only to be fired again in September of 2016.

Apparently, Del Rio had slapped a writer or production assistant backstage due to some sort of issue regarding that employee leaving some items in the catering area. This would’ve reportedly angered Del Rio who went ahead and slapped the employee.

Dutch Mantell, broke down the situation to WSI’s James Romero:

“Somebody says, ‘Hey, you gonna take this with you?’ He says, ‘No, they’ll clean it up.’ ‘They don’t have anybody to clean it up.’ ‘Ah, Alberto will get it.’ And he’s just kidding. Well, he made Alberto very mad, and he stands up and he said, ‘Why did you say that?’ He took offense to it, so he ends up just open-handed slapping this guy. I don’t know if he knocked him down, but he stunned him.” (H/T Sportskeeda)

Alberto was reportedly surprised at his firing as he claims it was the employee who disrespected him so all he did was defend himself.
