It is time for our Wrestlers and Wallad of the Week awards. It’s been a week of debuts, inaugural champions and yes more Rey Fenix drama. Each week, me and Chaos will hand out awards based on the events that occur in the world of wrestling!
Just a quick run through of the categories. There will be three awards that will be handed out, men’s wrestler of the week, women’s wrestler of the week and wallad/idiot of the week. Let’s get into this week’s awards!
Men’s Wrestler of the Week: Penta
The latest jump from AEW to WWE has finally happened, as Penta arrived on Monday Night RAW in what could be classed as one of the best debuts in a long time. The luchador made his entrance to a fantastic ovation from the crowd, and put on an exceptional match with Chad Gable. In just one night, WWE were able to do what AEW couldn’t, which is capitalise on the star quality of Penta. They even released his t-shirts and masks before the show could even get underway. It’s clear that the company are very high on the former AEW star right now, and you can’t be anything but happy for Penta who has worked hard his entire life to get to that moment.
Women’s Wrestler of the Week: Lyra Valkyria
Lyra Valkyria made history on RAW this week, as she deservedly became the first ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Lyra had a fantastic run in the tournament, beating one of the world’s best in Iyo Sky on her way to the finals. Dakota Kai deserves a lot of credit as well, she is someone that has had to overcome some serious injuries, but now she’s built herself up as a serious title contender. But Lyra has been the workhorse of the women’s division in 2024, she has been one of the best recent call-ups from NXT and has consistently put on fantastic matches to get the crowd off their feet. It will be interesting to see what she can do now as champion, and how she can elevate this new title.
Wallad of the Week: Tony Khan
Another week, another cryptic tweet from Rey Fenix. We mentioned his brother and former tag team partner in Penta having one of the best debuts in recent memory in WWE, while Fenix has been on the end of yet more Tony Khan pettiness. Tony has removed Fenix’s merchandise from the AEW shop, stopping him from being able to earn money from merchandise. While Rey replied to that with a tweet of a picture of himself in a straight jacket with his AEW gear on. Basically saying to the fans that he feels trapped in the alternative promotion. This has gone on for far too long now, to the point where it is easier for everyone if Tony just releases Fenix out of his contract. This doesn’t benefit anyone Tony, just let the man go to his brother in WWE!
