AVERAGE Alec Price Vs ASF, Antonio San Francisco: Overall this was a match was a on the fly opening contest, ASF was scheduled to face Tony Deppen and Alec was originally in the extreme scramble. This match had some decent spots and nice moves that were done between the two of them. I believe this was a match that was almost called on the fly by Alec and ASF and their inexperience hindered this match. This could have gone on second as it wasn’t the best way to open this show. (Summary By Coby)

Results: ASF by Pinfall via Butterfly Piledriver.

GOOD Dante Leon Vs Alex Zayne: Zayne enters first wearing the eye patch and then removes it before Dante Leon makes the walk. Both men circle each other to start the match, and a classic lock up gets us going. Zayne grabs onto a headlock but Leon is able to break free. Leon hits the ropes and Zayne drops down and then leap frogs before Dante rolls him up for a 1 count. Back on his feet, Zayne delivers european uppercuts and elbow strikes. Leon is able to turn things around with a rebound savate kick. He follows with an inverted moonsault cutter in the corner, and then parlays it into a tope suicida outside the ring. Zayne is down in the front row and eats a chop from Leon as they circle around the ringside area. Leon delivers a knee to Zayne in one of the seats on the outside and begins to build a pyramid of chairs. Zayne has too much time to recover but Leon is ready for it and he sets Alex up on the bed of chairs. Off the apron Leon flies but Zayne evades and the back of Leon is badly damaged on the chair pyramid. Alex Zayne goes to work on the back of Dante Leon, but Leon is game and fights back with right hands from the ground. He eats a shotgun dropkick from Zayne but is able to kick out at 2. The crowd begins to chant “let’s go Dante.” It isn’t a packed house but the fans in attendance have come alive for the first time tonight. Dante Leon corners Alex Zayne and connects with a spinning back kick. Both men climb to the second rope in the corner and trade chops. Leon gets the best of the exchange and follows with a springboard spanish fly, accompanied by a brainbuster and a near fall. Dante tries for another cutter but eats a huge knee to the jaw and Alex Zayne piles on with a corkscrew senton. Dante rolls Zayne up and they go back and forth in the corner. Zayne is prone and Dante Leon hits a shooting-star-Canadian-destroyer. Dante climbs the top rope and goes for a shooting star cutter but he is caught. Alex Zayne hits him with a pump handle-cobra clutch-driver. This was a cool back and forth match with a bit of a shocking result. The crowd came alive for the first time all night, and there were more than a couple innovative spots. It’s not an all time classic but Zayne’s finisher is definitely a cool move, and I personally thought Leon had a fun showing. They shake hands post match and maybe Zayne isn’t the heel we all thought he was. (Summary by Clark)

Results: Alex Zayne by Pinfall via Pump Handle Cobra Clutch Driver.

GREAT Bussy, Effy and Allie Katch Vs The Rejects, John Wayne Murdoch and Akira – GCW Tag Team Championship: Akira then John Wayne gets the first entrances before Bussy gets the champions entrance. After Johns music got cut off he tells Emil to remind the fans his name is not John Wayne P***y it’s John Wayne Murdoch. JWM and Allie Katch start the match, crowd chanting Bussy is going to kill you. John flips Allie off before Allie sneaks a roll up and JWM attaches himself to the ropes. Allie gets an early advantage getting some offense as John makes the tag to Akira, Allie tags in Effy. John Wayne breaks up with Effy and Akira locks up before Effy kisses John and Allie brings him out of the ring. Akira gets kissed but ends up biting the tongue of Effy. Effy is sent to the outside before Akira gets on the apron and does a run up to the corner, moonsaulting onto the three outside the ring. Akira gets a combo ending with the lifting reverse DDT. Allie gets some chair shots onto Akira, before John breaks a tube over Allie, grabbing more tubes and continuing the attack. The rest of the match involves some deathmatch style stuff but this wasn’t a full on deathmatch. There was limited blood but this was a very solid match for all parties involved. The match ended with John and Wayne brawling on the apron and getting pushed off and through a door. Akira and Allie were shocked and had a back and forth exchange that ended with Allie’s Piledriver. After the match Allie got her hand raised but Effy and John were brawling to the back. Effy failed to throw John into the pillar but they brawled to the back before Allie walked back both titles in hand. Effy Vs John might be a Tournament Of Survival non tournament match next time in Atlantic city. (Summary By Coby)

Results: Allie Katch for Bussy Retains by Pinfall Via Bussy Piledriver.

Coby Galenzoski and Clark Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

AVERAGE Jimmy Lloyd Vs Shane Mercer – Tournament Of Survival Qualifier: We’ve got a deathmatch on our hands and the crowd quickly starts chanting for Jimmy Lloyd as he makes the walk. Shane Mercer’s music hits next and he’s on his way now. Mercer looks nasty as could be on his way there. Jimmy starts with a lighttube across the back before the bell and we are underway. Mercer turns things around with a German suplex and a lighttube shot of his own. He parlays that into a brainbuster and then picks up another tube. He places the tube over the forehead of Lloyd and doesn’t break it on the first attempt but shatters the glass with a right hand on his second. Jimmy is then nailed with a reverse hurricanrana and Lloyd is down in the center of the ring. Mercer calls for a weapon from a member of the ring crew, and unfortunately, it’s a weed whacker. Lloyd recovers in time to avoid the damage but then it is turned on by Lloyd and he goes to town on Shane Mercer. Shane turns him over for a powerslam and thankfully the weed whacker has drawn blood but it is only on the arm of Shane Mercer. He grabs a towel that is filled with a nunchuck sized mace. And we have officially gone medieval. Lloyd grabs a chair and squares Mercer with two straight unprotected chair shots across the skull. Jimmy follows with an Assault Driver through a door, but Mercer recovers and breaks some light tubes over Jimmy’s head. Lloyd responds with a Canadian Destroyer and a near fall and then sets up a barbed wire door across a set of chairs. Mercer is draped across but he evades and launches a chair at the head of Jimmy Lloyd. Shane goes for Moonsault and Battery and he unfortunately overshot it, but that is the finish. This was a deathmatch without question, but there wasn’t a heck of a lot of storytelling here. The crowd enjoyed it and Mercer has qualified for TOS. It was entertaining with a lot of athleticism, but there was still some to be desired.  (Summary By Clark)

Results: Shane Mercer by Pinfall via Moonsault and Battery (Moonsault Fallaway Slam)

Coby Galenzoski and Clark Taylor WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

GREAT Gringo Loco Vs Aj Gray Vs Cole Radrick Vs Drago Kid Vs Marcus Mathers Vs Axton Ray – Scramble – GCW Extreme Championship: Mathers enters first, followed by Axton Ray and then Drago Kid. All 3 receive decent receptions from the crowd and then Gringo Loco makes his way to the ring. Cole Radrick makes the walk 5th and the crowd is happy to see him for a second straight night. Last but certainly not least, we get,. “Oh Let’s Do it,”and AJ Gray, the Extreme Champion of GCW and he’s ready to go. Lucha rules apply to this 6 man extreme scramble, and Radrick and Gray start in the ring. The other competitors circle the ring as AJ Gray lands a shoulder tackle on Cole and then follows with a chop block. Gray runs him into the corner and delivers a chop which he follows up with a spinning heel kick. Radrick rolls out and Axton Ray is in the ring but now Gringo Loco jumps into the action. Drago kid joins too and hits a tornado ddt on Axton Ray, sending him to the outside. Loco and Drago kid trade moves with some insane lucha action and then Marcus Matchers joins the match as Drago rolls to the outside. Mathers delivers a half and half suplex and then follows with a tope con hilo to the outside taking out 2 of his opponents. Cole Radrick reinserts himself into the action with a moonsault to the remaining competitors and he and Drago Kid hit the ring. Drago scores on a step up enziguri and then Gringo Loco joins the ring and he tries to double team Drago with the help of Axton Ray. Drago climbs the shoulders of Gringo and then walks across Axton’s to deliver a dive to the other 3 competitors on the outside. Somehow he and Mathers are back in the ring and Drago delivers a poison-rana. There is now a triple stack in the corner of the ring, Gringo carrying Mathers and Drago Kid, and a series of moonsaults landing on Axton Ray. AJ Gray is hit with a swinging ddt and then a springboard moonsault from Cole Radrick. Axton Ray drills Radrick with a sitout tombstone and then hits it with a chop from AJ Gray. Gray has Ray grounded briefly but Axton responds with a bunch of forearms. AJ turns it around with a urinagi but is hit with a springboard senton from Drago Kid. Gringo Loco meets Drago kid on the top and hits a super military press michinoku driver. AJ Gray immediately gets back in the action knocking Gringo Loco to the outside. After a brief back and forth with Mathers, Loco and AJ team up for something, but Mathers fights his way out. AJ Gray delivers a devastating lariat and then knocks Loco to the outside. He drops the Leg off the top to Mathers and AJ Gray has retained the GCW Extreme Championship match. That was an incredible contest, the unique rules and 6 competitors put on a show. Spot fest wouldn’t be a stretch but it was very logical, and extremely entertaining, no pun intended. AJ Gray looked great, but Gringo Loco continues to build his star power inside the GCW ring night in and night out.  (Summary By Clark)

Results: Aj Gray Retains by Pinfall via Diving Leg Drop on Marcus Mathers.

Coby Galenzoski and Clark Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.5 Stars

GOOD Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne Vs The SAT Jose and Joel Maximo: Both teams enter and the bell rings with all four teams in the ring and a sign of respect to start the match. SAT starts the match attacking Jordan and Nick. This match turns out to be as normal as you can get in terms of tag team rules. SAT are working on Nick Wayne before Jordan gets the hot tag, taking on SAT by himself. Jordan and Nick are going for a double spanish fly but one of the SAT get Nick off and hit him with a powerbomb onto his knees. They go for a super clothesline but the SAT guy ends up landing on the top rope tumbling while Jordan falls on his back. It was the one prominent botch but didn’t look so back because he didn’t land on his head or anything bad. The match continues on as Jordan and Nick take control of the match. A great sequence that almost had Jordan get the victory with the clout cutter. The SAT tries for the spanish fly but Jordan spots them, before they go to a different corner with Nick, Jordan tries to interfere again but they end up getting the double spanish fly on both Nick and Jordan for the win. Solid match that got hindered by the one super clothesline spot. After the match the teams exchange respect before the SAT grab the mic. Joel puts over GCW, Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne saying the match blew his expectations out of the water. They share another hug before they all walk out. (Summary By Coby)

Results: SAT By Pinfall via Double Spanish Fly

Coby Galenzoski and Clark Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

GREAT Joey Janela Vs Masha Slamovich: Masha makes her entrance first to a decent reception. Joey will walk second and he’s clearly a GCW homer. They love the kid, the Bad Boy and Masha both have supporters in attendance this evening. Joey Omega sets up for the match during his ring introduction, and if you don’t get that joke watch the match and you will. “Masha’s gonna kill you,”  chants ring out in Atlantic City and they trade strikes to start the match. No lock up, no takeovers, just good old fashioned forearms and punches. The Bad Boy slaps Slamovich but she responds with a slap of her own. She chops Janela and then follows with more and more overhand chops across the sternum. Joey responds witha headbut to ground Slamovic and then uses a lariat to keep her grounded. He postures for the crowd and hoists her up for a powerbomb and a two count. Janela keeps the grip and delivers a second powerbomb but of the released variety this time. He hits the ropes but is caught with a spinning back kick and both competitors are now grounded. Janela lands a german suplex and a running knee when they return to the center of the ring Joey is in control. He hoists Masha up for a superplex of the top turnbuckle but Slamovic fights her way out and delivers a missile dropkick. She follows that with a tope suicida and the fans are split at this point in the match. Joey has gotten in slightly more offense but they trade punches in the center of the ring, and Masha is able to get the best of the exchange finishing with an axe kick. She parlays the axe kick into a powerbomb and goes under the ring for a steel chair. Slamovich delivers an unprotected chair shot to Janelas skull and then hits him with a northern lights suplex on the same chair. Masha brings in a door but is hit with a german suplex and then a running powerbomb through the door. Joey lifts her up for a Gotch style piledriver but that is not enough! Masha recovers and gets Janela up in an electric chair before sending him through another door. Janela kicks at two and Masha looks to hoist him up for something, Janela uses his leverage advantage to deliver a hammerlock takedown followed by a lariat. As Joey begins to taunt and address the crowd, Masha Slamovic locks in a sleeper, but Janela climbs through the ropes and delivers a back drop onto the apron. Masha is in trouble but she is defiant as Joey tries to deliver a superkick. Slamovich evades the first one but Joey Janela scores one the second try and the superkick is the finish. What a great shot delivered by Joey Janela and his first match as an official free agent was a darn good one. He postures and grabs a microphone. Joey starts by thanking Masha Slamovich but he asks her to leave the ring. Janela addresses the fact that he is no longer signed to AEW. He doesn’t run down AEW he discusses how much, “He learned in the 3 years he was signed to AEW.” Then here it comes, he says AEW, had “no idea what they were getting themselves into when they signed Joey Janela,” before bringing to light his matches with Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. Now the promo turns, and he says he was asked to, “Plug Dynamite when he wasn’t even on the card,” before saying, his “heart was always in GCW.” He’s in GCW to wrestle everywhere now. It was a really interesting promo, almost like he had more to say but didn’t feel right saying it just yet. Either way it was a very entertaining match and it’s good to know that Joey is being booked in more than just America and he gets to continue living his dream as a pro wrestler. (Summary By Clark)

Results: Joey Janela by Pinfall via Superkick

Coby Galenzoski and Clark Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.75 Star

GREAT Matt Tremont Vs Brandon Kirk – Tournament Of Survival Qualifier: Veda Scott left commentary putting Nick Gage on commentary as the match was being set up. Light tube bundles, log cabin of tubes and glass, and a barbed wire board on the outside. Nick Gage says it would be a big win for Kirk if he beats Tremont. Brandon Kirk enters first with a set of tubes in hand. Tremont shows up with a new theme, and a wooden board with one end wrapped in barbed wire. Slow start to the match, as they take an actual wrestling approach with a collar and elbow tie up. Matt throws Kirk off into the corners which have bundles of light tubes standing up. He throws him into three corners in a row, resulting in all bundles being busted open. The match started off slower than expected but I liked that it was building up to the more hardcore stuff. Matt puts a gusset plate into Kirk’s head before smacking one into his own forehead. They attempt to trade headbutts with the gussets but Matt’s gusset falls out making the spot awkward unfortunately. They get in the center and trade punches then headbutts and then more punches, mixing in jabs with traditional right hands. Kirk leapfrogs off the top before giving a shotgun dropkick into the last bundle in the corner. Kirk then breaks a tube in Matt’s mouth.  The rest of the match involved a lot of light tubes, both men getting them broken over each other. There was a clear story of both guys wanting to get in Tournament Of Survival, and fighting back multiple times with the middle fingers up. I enjoyed Kirk almost getting the victory before going for the tube log cabin and getting put through it and kicking out before getting put back down by Tremont. As Tremont gets his hand raised as the crowd are chanting both these guys to close out the show. (Summary By Coby)

Results: Matt Tremont By Pinfall via Third Sitout Death Valley Driver.

Coby Galenzoski and Clark Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

Overall: Overall, this was arguably a better show than In Too Deep, but they got the same rating. You can check over the way it played out and see why, and that is what is most important. This was a quality wrestling show, as was last night. Tremont and Kirk delivered in the main event without question. AJ Gray had an exciting title defense in the scramble and was able to retain his title. Joey Janela wrestled for GCW as a non AEW contracted wrestler in 3 years and picked up the victory over Masha Slamovich. Shane Mercer ended up as the other qualified wrestler for the Tournament of Survival. We also saw two very good and solid tag team matches but for completely different ideas. Oh Yeah, Nick Gage is still the official deathmatch commentator for GCW.

GOOD Dante Leon Vs Drago Kid Vs Jimmy Lloyd Vs Shane Mercer Vs Gringo Loco Vs ASF Vs Axton Ray – Seven Way Scramble: This is your typical GCW Scramble with a lot of Lucha style moves and spots. Nothing looked bad or botched which can easily happen in a match of this style. There was one spot that wasn’t clean from Axton but he had a good recovery and got the moonsault onto his feet. Gorgeous Spanish Fly and rolling fireman’s carry from the top rope by Shane, Gringo and ASF. Fun way to start the show off.

Results: Gringo Loco By Pinfall Via Gringo Bomb (Electric Chair Spinning Powerbomb off the middle Rope.)

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

GOOD Jordan Oliver Vs Masha Slamovich: Match started off pretty technical and on the ground, before Jordan took control going a lot faster and more athletic before Jordan started to work on the leg of Masha. With Masha getting control and offense the crowd definitely was getting behind her. I enjoyed Masha using the hair of Jordan to do multiple snapmares. Nice top rope dive to the outside and a nice brainbuster from Masha. The two trade strikes before Jordan throws her into the corner and gives a nice combo of offense. Masha has a good nearfall. Masha gets a nice combination of offense shortly after. Jordan is hellbent on putting the boston crab on Masha, failing a couple times before finally getting it, Masha getting a rope break. Masha gets up getting the better of the exchange on the apron that concluded with a japanese cyclone suplex. Jordan kicks out before the two are having a final exchange of offense before Jordan gets a great looking suplex powerbomb for the victory.

Results: Jordan Oliver By Pinfall Via Orange Crush (Suplex Powerbomb)

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

AVERAGE ACH Vs Alex Zayne: I want to give the props the ACH and Alex Zayne, they were having a solid and entertaining match but there was a point in time where the match went to s**t. There was a big botch that resulting in those infamous chants of “you f**ked up” and there was a pinfall that involved another big botch. Alex Zayne didn’t deliver the finish the best either so it was a solid match that truly fell apart in the last quarter of the match.

Results: Alex Zayne By Pinfall Via Shooting Star Knees.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

GOOD Bussy, Effy and Allie Katch and Grim Reefer Vs Second Gear Crew, Mance Warner and Matthew Justice and Aj Gray: This match originally was a triple threat tag, with the briscoes but Aj Gray entered and said this is Second Gear Crew Vs Bussy. Allie Katch gets on the mic and says they got people wanting to be a part of Bussy. In comes GCW’s resident Stoner Grim Reefer. This match is no longer for the Tag Team Championships. Remember I said Reefer was the stone, once Second Gear Crew were tossed out of the ring he pulled out a blunt and the champions joined him in a puff puff pass exchange. Overall most tag matches from GCW are done in a street fight like manner but also a Lucha style type match. This one had two always in the ring and it was in minor car crash mode. Enjoyable spots with chairs and the doors and solid offensive moves that were done throughout the match. I enjoyed the tower of doom spot that was done through a door though. Enjoyable match that didn’t have anything wrong with the match itself. Good finish as well.

Results: Matthew Justice of Second Gear Crew by Pinfall via Doomsday Clothesline on Grim Reefer

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

AMAZING Biff Busick Vs Blake Christian: This was a really solid match that had Biff and Blake providing an all out banger. This was a really hard hitting match, a lot of good chops and hard strikes. The two went the distance with the crowd singing Biff’s music for the majority of the match. This match felt like a big and awesome match and it truly was. One of the ones you can say is one of the matches of the night. After the match Blake Christian says he was glad to have the match in GCW instead of WWE, and then lists off his post match call out including Alex Shelley, Alex Shelley’s Japanese Friend Kushida, the one who has what Blake wants Jon Moxley and Johnny F**king Gargano. I do agree with Blake about the match being in GCW let it be a better match between him and Biff. And I am curious to see what matches happen on Blake’s wishlist.

Results: Blake Christian By Pinfall Via Curb Stomp.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 4.00 Stars.

GREAT Joey Janela Vs Mike Bailey: GCW really said let’s two bangers back to back. Mike and Janela have an all out war with each other. I loved the brawl spilling to the merch tables and the crazy table spot where Joey fell through the table but the frame of it stayed intact. There were a lot of near falls and moves for the sake of moves closer to the end but overall this was another really solid match. After the match, Bailey bowed to Joey before offering his hand in respect, Joey flipped Mike off before leaving to the back.

Results: Mike Bailey By Pinfall Via The Flamingo (Leg capture Electric Chair like Driver)

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

GREAT Charles Mason Addresses the GCW Fans: After Janela Vs Bailey, Emil Jay, the ring announcer is talking about the next Atlantic city dates, Tournament Of Survival 7 and Cage Of Survival June 4th and 5th. Charles Mason’s theme hits as he promised he was going to attend. Before Charles could even talk the crowd is telling him to “Shut the f**k up”. Charles says the room smells like poverty and that comes from the audience. The crowd continues to chant to try and shut Charles. Charles says the company is filled with drug addicts, life-long criminals and deathmatch wrestlers. Claiming they have to bleed to provide for their family. The crowd starts chanting MDK for Nick Gage, and Charles says Nick Gage is the entree and he wants the appetizer. Charles says he want to take Spyder Nate Webb out of GCW. Nate Webb comes out to the ring and attacks Charles from behind. Charles pokes Nate in the eye before using his belt to choke Nate out. Standing tall over Nate Webb.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

GOOD Akira Vs Hoodfoot – GCW Tournament Of Survival Qualifier: GCW deathmatch wrestling, two guys using plenty of things to make each other bleed. Chopping each other with Gusset Plates, light tubes, ladders, a weed whacker and a chain. Your feelings towards this match go hand in hand with how you feel about deathmatch wrestling. This was a solid deathmatch for those who do enjoy this style. I am on the fence, sometimes it’s too much, sometimes it’s just good enough.

Results: Hoodfoot Qualifies By Pinfall via Clothesline with a chain around his fist.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

SQUASH Slade Vs Sawyer Wreck – GCW Tournament Of Survival Qualifier: This match was quite the short car crash resulting in them both as bloody as Hoodfoot and Akira were by the end of their match. Honestly aside from them both being busted open so fast this match didn’t do too much. It was a short car crash but close to a dud. Outside of Slade taking a couple of bumps onto a aluminum can board and into some tubes this match was too short and still squash-like. This match won’t be rated.

Results: Slade Qualifies By Submission Via Sleeper Hold.

GREAT Cole Radrick Vs John Wayne Murdoch – GCW Ultraviolent Championship: This match was the second deathmatch for Cole Radrick in Atlantic City venue, and it was on par with his stand out match in February. Overall this match was a little limited in terms of what all they used. The Hoodfoot and Akira match had quite a bit more weaponry. This match was slightly better and a little more entertaining than that match as well. After the match John Wayne Murdoch gets the crowd behind him, giving his Tournament of Survival spot to Radrick. He also goes on to say that at Cage Of Survival he will be facing Alex Colon for the last time and as champion promised more deathmatch wrestling in GCW. Alex Colon and John Wayne Murdoch seem to be going through a double turn.

Results: John Wayne Murdoch Retains By Pinfall Via Spinning Top Rope Brainbuster.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

Overall GCW had a solid show that involved two sections, the wrestling and the deathmatch wrestling. Both sections had their highs and great moments with some alright moments. If you weren’t a fan of Deathmatches you could leave early or stop watching the show. The first few matches were good before it got kicked up a notch and we had two banger matches In Biff Vs Blake and Mike Vs Joey. The deathmatch portion of the show was alright, two acceptable deathmatches and a solid main event to close the show. The atmosphere was pretty solid throughout the whole night including the prominent singling of Biff’s theme throughout his match. The structure was slightly odd having all deathmatches at the end, but it wasn’t a deal breaker and the order was fine.

The post “All Heart Wants The Rebel Heart” GCW In Too Deep Review April 30th 2022 appeared first on Wrestling Republic.

A new AEW contract is expiring this weekend.

Via Twitter AEW star Joey Janela revealed that his AEW contract expires this Sunday.

Making humor about it, he wrote how he is spending the money he earned on AEW, on a lobster.

Janela opened up last month about his future and plans for his career. He said

“One of my goals is to have a run in Japan, which is something I’ve wanted since I was a child, I’ve done shows in Japan, but I’ve never had a steady run there. That will be in the works very soon.”

He pointed out how he want to help the new generations in the indie scene.

“I wanna wrestle new talent, I wanna find new talent, I am gonna bring new talent to GCW, to wrestle better guys and get themselves recognized and ready for a contract somewhere whether it be the WWE or AEW or maybe New Japan.

I want to wrestle 2, 3, 4 times a week no matter how my body feels. There’s nothing more rewarding than doing an indie show and after your match saying ‘Damn I am beat-up, how am I gonna wrestle tomorrow? How am I gonna wrestle the next day?’ And then wrestling those 3 days, and giving it your all and giving matches that people are talking about all over the place. And when you get home that Monday and you lay in your bed at 9 o’clock in the morning because you haven’t slept for three days and you’re beat-up and you sleep till 8 at night, there’s nothing more rewarding than that.”

Janela made his AEW debut back in 2019 at the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view.

Joey Janela will be wrestling Mike Bailey this Saturday at GCW’s In Too Deep event in Atlantic City.

The post Joey Janela Reveals His AEW Contract Expires Sunday appeared first on Wrestling Republic.

GREAT The H8 Club vs The Second Gear Crew & The Briscoes: Nick Gage comes out alone as Matt Tremont is unable to attend. The new belts are shown off and they look awesome. SGC & The Briscoes start things off with a brawl. The Briscoes wait no time in bringing doors into the ring. Justice gets double chair shots on the outside followed by a top rope knee to the skull set up on a steel chair. Warner throws Jay Briscoe through a door for the first 2 count of the evening. Nick gage returns the favour putting warner through another door. Gage stabs Warner in the head repeatedly with a piece of the door but its not working so Slade brings him the pizza cutter and Gage cuts him open. Slade has a cutter of his own and the two men hit stereo pizza cutters to the forehead of a very bloody warner. The Briscoes re-enter and clear house quickly followed by SGC with a symphony of chair shots. They set up the ring with doors and chairs preparing for more carnage. Gage returns with chair shots of his own and pulls out a stapler which he uses to staple Mance’s tongue to the door and follows up by putting Justice through said door, almost ripping out Warner’s tongue in the process. Gage hits a suplex to justice through a door on the outside. The Briscoes take full advantage and wail on Warner almost getting the 3 count but missing the mark. Slade faces both men alone and gets laid out with a lariat. Doomsday Device for the three count and The Briscoes are you new GCW Tag Team Champions. What a match. Slade was the perfect replacement and the right team went over.

Results: The Briscoes Win by Pinfall and are your new GCW Tag Team Champions

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.75

AMAZING Blake Christian vs AR Fox: great fluidity in the opening spot of this match and the stereo kip up at the end was well choreographed. A nice diving dropkick in the corner from Fox as he rolls over the ropes for a quick kiss. A fantastic dropkick and kip up form the hallmark Blake Christian. These too work so fluidly together. Fox clears the top rope landing across Christian on the outside. A knee strike from Blake changes the tide and back in the ring he manages an early two count. Super kick from Christian but fox manages to escape leading to the AEW special AKA the Tope Suicida. Legs sweep into an amazing twister from Fox for a very close two count but wow that was amazing. Fox attempts a 450 but Blake rolls out the way and hits a standing splash for a very close two count. They exchange kicks and both hit each other with an Ace Crusher. A second and third ace crusher from Fox almost seals the deal but Blake used resiliency at the last second. Blake hits a Three amigos followed by a Frog splash in honour of the late great Eddie Guerrero but to no avail as Fox kicks out. A Lo Main Pain from Fox followed by a 450 splash still isn’t enough to put Christian away. A Spanish fly and a Golden Trident finally does the job and The Hallmark Blake Christian goes over.

Results: Blake Christian wins by Pinfall after hitting the Golden Trident.

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 4

GOOD Mickie James vs Allie Katch: Mickie James is everywhere right now. From Impact to the Royal Rumble and now to the stepson of them all GCW Spring Break 6. Katch tidies up Mickie’s hair in the corner. Mickie has the advantage to start with taking Katch down to the mat almost immediately. Mickie James hits a nice big boot and falls into the splits for a two count. The two share a short ballad of chops. There’s some nice in-ring story telling going on with the two girls frequently taunting each other. Katch hits a trio and splashes to Mickie in the corner but only manages a two count for her efforts. Katch brings in a door and sets it up in the centre of the ring a trio of kicks and flapjacks and Mickie sends her through the door. A Thez press from the top gets her the two count. A piledriver from Katch only gets her a two count after the two share an.. *Ahem* intimate moment.. In the ring. Mickie then kisses Katch causing enough of a distraction for the DDT and wins her Debut GCW match. Katch gets mad at the crowd for booing Mickie James and puts her over after the match. She also reminds everyone this is the first women’s match on spring break and I for one hope it won’t be the last,

Results: Mickie James wins by Pinfall in her debut GCW match.

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.25

GREAT Spring Break Scramble Match – Nick Wayne vs Jordan Oliver vs Jimmy Lloyd vs Gringo Loco vs Alec Price vs Jack Cartwheel vs Ninja Mack: it’s an absolute spot fest to kick things off with a flurry of aerial assaults none of which land successfully. A nice dropkick from Price to Lloyd but gets a triple superkick for his efforts. Gringo gives a tope to the outside and clears house. Scramble matches are always so much fun and is a great way to showcase a lot of talent at once. Nick Wayne and Ninja Mack both work effortlessly solid futures in store for both of them. Wayne and Oliver shake hands then exchange chops with Oliver getting the upper hand before being taken out by Ninja Mack. Gringo hits a power bomb to Mack and flips over the ropes wiping out the rest of the competition on the outside. Nick Wayne almost gets a three count after a beautiful Code Red but it’s broken up by Lloyd. Price foils Lloyds pin attempt and then gets levelled by Cartwheel who cartwheels and flips over the ropes to the outside shortly followed by a 630 from Nick Wayne. One ace crusher and Nick Wayne gets the pinfall win.

Results: Nick Wayne wins by Pinfall after hitting an Ace Crusher.

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 3.5

AVERAGE Joey Janela vs X-Pac: Janela makes the controversial choice to wear Scott Hall-esque attire. I don’t know whether it was to pay homage to Scott or to Psych out X-Pac. Either way the crowd hate him. Janela rushes X-Pac as soon as the bells ring, attacking him in the corner. A solid  power bomb from Waltman and a Bronco Buster attempt but Janela slithers out the way. Janela sends X-Pac into the ring post on the outside. Janela rearranges the furniture and struggles to get the door across the chairs on the outside. The two go back and forth for a while and not much of note happens until Pac finally hits the Bronco Buster and an attempt at the X Factor but Janela rolls away. The two duke it out for position on the apron, Janela getting the upper hand hitting a Fireman’s Carry slam on to the apron. Janela sets up a second door on the outside and X-Pac slingshots over the top rope sending both men through the door. Canadian Destroyer & X Factor from Waltman gets him the 2 count. X-Pac looks Gassed out at this point and the match slows to a back and forth of blows in the ring ending with a double lariat dropping both men to the canvas. Janela Locks in a crossface but Waltman gets to the ropes in time. A third door/chair setup makes its way into the ring with Janela. The two make their way to the top rope and Pac hits an X Factor from the top through the ropes but Joey gets a foot on the ropes breaking the count. I’m not a huge Janela fan but he’s the perfect heel in this match. Brainbuster off the top from Janela for a two count. Double stomp from the top through the door only bags him another two. Pac hits Janela with a chair sending him off the top turnbuckle through the table and to the floor on the outside. Chair shot to the head of Janela who hugs Pac and low blows him with a knee picking up the win. X-Pac gets emotional after his match and puts over GCW and says that he’s not done yet.

Results: Joey Janela Wins by Pinfall.

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 2.5

GOOD Jon Moxley(c) vs AJ Gray: The two men lock up and Gray takes the early advantage applying the side headlock followed by a flurry of clotheslines rebounding off the ropes. They exchange blows and AJ sends Mox to the outside and dives through the ropes wiping out Moxley. Mox takes it into the crowd and they brawl through the audience. It’s difficult to see the action for a while as the cameras just aren’t keeping up too well but we eventually get back to rinside and Mox enters the ring with a barbed wire board and sends Gray into it with a release Suplex kicking back and relaxing in the corner afterwards. He brutalises AJ with a pair of clippers and almost rips Grays leg open with some barbed wire. He wraps the barbed wire round his fist and starts laying it AJ repeatedly tearing into the flesh of Gray’s skull. He proceeds to whip AJ with the Barbed wire and wraps it round his neck for an assisted neckbreaker. Mox back drops AJ onto the barbed wire board again. This is an all out assault. Gray is getting absolutely decimated. Moxley sets up the board in the corner of the ring. AJ is finally able to turn the tide and send Mox through the table with a spear. An enziguri rocks Moxley and Gray follows it up with a power slam and a moonsault for the two count. An impressive display of endurance from both men. AJ pulls a ladder out from the ring and Moxley dropkicks it into his face through the bottom rope. Gray returns the favour sending Moxley through a steel chair. Gray lays Moxley across a door and jumps from the ladder through Mox to the floor below. The two men trade punches as they did at the start of the match bringing things full circle. A lariat from AJ gets him a cover but its not enough. Gray brings out the barbed wire light tubes and Moxley hits a cutter on to them but takes most of the impact himself. Death rider and Moxley retains the title. A bit of a botched ending and not much offence from AJ but a decent match overall.

Results: Jon Moxley wins by Pinfall retaining the GCW World Championship.

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 3

BELOW AVERAGE Alex Colon(c) vs John Wayne Murdoch: It’s time for your Main Event. It’s time for violence. Murdoch smashes Colon with a light tube to start the match early and seconds later Colon is sent flying off the top rope through the light tube covered table below and carves up his forehead with a knife. Colon retaliates by throwing a light tube at Murdoch and taking thighs back into the ring. Colon gets sent through yet another table  and the red mask grows deeper. A light tube down the shirt and a strike to the back gets him a two count. Colon rolls through a pin attempt and kicks a lightube into Murdoch and proceeds to get some revenge butchering  Murdoch with the knife. This didn’t look great to be honest. It looked like he was tickling him with it. Though violent, a lot of the shots in this match have looked very soft and safe. Notably the headbutts outside the ring which looked more like they were trying to kiss each other. The two brawl and Murdoch gets sent into a bundle of light tubes. A drop kick to a tube covered Murdoch only gets Colon a two count. Colon pops up/ no sells a pile driver and dives into Murdoch on the outside slamming him in the mouth with another tube. Colon hits the ring post and it seems as though Colon is injured. Colon gets his arm taped up but Murdoch keeps up his assault. Suplex on to the light tubes to Colon but a kick out at one. Murdoch hits him in the arm with a 2×4 and locks in an armbar for the Submission Victory and is your new GCW Ultraviolent Champion.

Results: John Wayne Murdoch wins by submission to become you new GCW Ultraviolent Champion.

Kofi Taylor WR Star Rating – 2

My match of the night has to go to AR Fox vs Blake Christian. The offence and innovation on display from both men in that match was next level. The scramble match was a pleasure to watch and I truly can’t wait to see Nick Wayne in AEW and Ninja Mack in NJPW. They both have extremely bright futures ahead of them, I can’t praise them enough. Seeing Slade join Nick Gage in the tag match made me excited for the possibility of them two working together some more in the future. I hope do as they both compliment each other well gimmick wise. If you love violence and Hardcore Wrestling though maybe skip the main event. The strikes looked soft and I think Colon may have actually injured himself? We shall soon find out.

The post “Nice Tan Line Dip$*@#” GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6 Part 1 Review appeared first on Wrestling Republic.

Stunt last wrestled for the company on the October 4th episode of Elevation in a tag team match that was taped September 29th. Him and his partner, Fuego Del Sol lost the match to Wardlow and Shawn Spears. While he was on the October 5th episode of Dark, this was not his last appearance as the show was taped all the way back on September 11th.

In a recent interview done by Joey Janela with Denise Salcedo, he talked about his plans to leave AEW once his contract runs out. He also mentioned that AEW officials have supposedly ‘ghosted’ Stunt.

“I’ve had times where I’ve injured people of course, everyone has. But once you get that reputation, it’s hard to break that. I’ve had a string of bad luck throughout my AEW career and that may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back but I don’t know because they don’t communicate with me. They did the same thing to Marko Stunt. They just stopped talking to him, but I appreciate them, but if you have talent relations, I know Christopher Daniels would love nothing more than to tell me I am no longer with the company. But it is what it is. I am not sad, I am not mad, I am not mad at anyone, I had a wonderful experience.” (H/T WrestlingInc.com)

It has been made known that going into 2022, Tony Khan would have to make difficult decisions regarding who he would re-sign to the company and who he would have to let go. Talent such as Janela and Lio Rush have already left or are on their way out of the promotion.

After a hard-fought bout with numerous near-falls from both teams, the match came to an end when X-Pac put Myers through a door with an X-Factor. The legend then gave a speech after the match where he thanked the GCW fans and promotion for welcoming him back with open arms before stating: “I’ll be the first to call it. This was my last match.” He would then hug a visibly upset Joey Janela and made his way to leave the ring before his partner laid him out with a superkick.

Waltman attempted to get back up, but Janela just kept knocking him back down. The angry fans then began throwing garbage at the star and hurling boos and insults. It’s unsure if this really will be X-Pac’s last match or if he and Janela will enter into a program somewhere down the line for the legend to avenge this assault. We’ll likely know soon enough, though.

Overall, this episode of AEW Dark had some good matches that contributed to it being a good episode, but it also had some less exciting matches. There were a lot of good tag team matches with well-known tag teams like The Factory, Bear Country, and Dark Order. There was also a fantastic main event featuring Lee Moriarty and Joey Janela. The opening contest between Anthony Ogogo and Marcus Kross, on the other hand, was nothing to get excited about. Regardless, tonight’s episode was entertaining to watch and well worth a try.

Results: Big Vin last eliminates Charles Mason

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating –

Match 2:

GOOD: Scramble Match: Grim Reefer Vs Alex Zayne Vs Dante Leon Vs Shane Mercer Vs Ninja Mack Vs Jack Cartwheel.

Overall this was the typical scramble match. Grim Reefer got his pop by pulling out the blunt and Shane Mercer always gets some great spots.

Results: Grim Reefer pins Shane Mercer after a tornado DDT off the top rope.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

Main Show Matches:

Match 1:

GOOD: PCO Vs Alex Colon Vs Tony Deppen Vs G-Raver Vs Jimmy Lloyd Vs Jordan Oliver Vs Aj Gray – “Grab The Brass Ring” Ladder Match:

Overall every one of the guys who competed in this match, looked really good. Thankfully Aj Gray is good after the botch. They are continuing the Alex Colon Vs John Wayne Murdoch feud which is good with a future rematch at potentially Spring Break.

Results: Aj Gray wins by grabbing the Brass Ring.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

Match 2:

GREAT: Team Bandido: ASF, Bandido and Laredo Kid Vs Team Gringo Loco: Demonic Flamita, Arez and Gringo Loco.

A lot of the lucha style matches that GCW do are really fun and enjoyable. This one was much better than the scramble from the pre show. Outside of the botch at the end, this match fired on all cylinders.

Results: Gringo Loco Pins ASF after a piledriver

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

Match 3:

GOOD: Blake Christian Vs Lio Rush

Personally I have never seen the past few matches Blake and Lio have had but I feel they might have held back a little. Overall this match was pretty good and I do want to see Blake Christian Vs Jonathan Gresham soon!

Results: Blake Christian wins after 450 stomp.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

Match 4:

GOOD: Matt Cardona With Chelsea Green Vs Joey Janela

Boy oh boy. Cardona Vs Janela had one of the most overbooked matches of the night but it was entertaining regardless. I love the WWE ECW shout outs with the If Cardona Wins We Riot. The F**k Mick Foley T Shirt. Throwing his shirt in the crowd and the fan ripping the shirt up and throwing it right back to Chelsa. This entire match was filled with so many moments that it was really good. I enjoyed Brian Myers copying the edge spot on Cena. This match was overbooked and overall just a crazy match.

Results: Matt Cardona hits the radio silence (roughrider) through a door.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

Fun Sabu and Bill alfonso returns, saving Matthew Justice and Mance Warner from 44OH

Match 5:

AVERAGE: Ruby Soho Vs Allie Katch

The second half of the show started to decline in quality with this match . The crowd was hot for Ruby Soho and Allie Katch got a special look for her entrance. This match was something that could be redone on an Atlantic City show and given a rightful amount of time. Ruby Soho got booed when she won.

Results: Ruby Soho wins after Soho kicked her as they went off the top rope.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

Match 6:

AVERAGE: Effy Vs Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Jarrett makes history for himself as he has wrestled in 5 decades now. But overall this match was a match that relied on Jeff whipping Effy with his belt. Effy got a bit of offense but this crowd died when Jeff Jarrett pinned Effy. I do not know if there is a rematch planned but I don’t know what is next for Effy or Jeff Jarrett in GCW.

Results: Jeff Jarrett pins Effy after a guitar shot and the Stroke.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

Match 7:

GOOD: GCW World Championship: Jon Moxley (champion) Vs Homicide

F**k Bully Ray chants were loud and excited. Jon Moxley returned and he looked very good. This match was a semi main event which was odd as people thought the Briscoes wouldn’t be on the show and this would be the main event. Homicide is a living legend and this match was another match that felt limited by the surroundings of the Hammerstein. I would love to see them have a better match at Atlantic City.

Results: Jon Moxley wins after a death rider through a chair.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

Match 8:

POOR: GCW Tag Team Championships: The Briscoes Open Challenge. Answered By… Matt Tremont and Nick Gage

I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR. THIS is nothing against The Briscoes or Tremont and Gage.. GCW’s hard time cut made this match not entertaining. I am aware that they were on traditional PPV so they had to adhere to those timeframes. This match needs to have a rematch. In Atlantic City, The Briscoes Vs Matt Tremont and Nick Gage need to happen where they can truly have the match they wanted to have here. The Poor rating is simple, the hard time cut made this match a dud to me. The crowd was hot for the Briscoes, for Matt Tremont and for Dewey Donovan and Nick Gage but that’s the only good quality of this match. There were a handful of good spots but this match reeked of being rushed.

Results: Nick Gage pins Mark Briscoe after a chokeslam backbreaker including the crowd and Jay Briscoe’s confusion.

Coby Galenzoski WR Star Rating – 1.75 Stars

Overall the first half of the match was enjoyable and what you expect from GCW. After Allie Katch and Effy both taking losses, the show took a strange turn with Moxley and Homicide not able to kick the match into high gear and the main event being a strange way to end this big of a PPV. Hopefully, GCW gets a second go at the Hammerstein Ballroom like it seems to be rumored.
