Honestly: Ricochet vs John Morrison Needs To Continue Into A Full Blown Feud

This past Monday night a rivalry from years ago was reignited and it may have been the best match on Raw in 2021. It was competitive and back and forth and really showcased both men and really was the absolute best showing of Ricochet on Raw in a very, very long time. The ending of the match was perfect because it was one of those highlight moments of Raw that will likely be replayed for years. It was truly a moment that both fans and fellow wrestlers immediately started tweeting how much they loved the match and the moment.

For the WWE audience this was the first time these men wrestled each other on Raw one on one (as far as I can remember) but these men had a rivalry back in the day in Lucha Underground. Back then Morrison was known as Johnny Mundo and Ricochet wore a mask and was known as Prince Puma. One of their infamous matches was a 60-Minute Iron Man Match with Puma defending the LU Championship against Mundo on June 17, 2015. The men were the only match on the show that week and they showed the world just how good they were and even though Puma retained both men came out winners.

At Ultima Lucha Tres Part 4 airing October 18, 2017, these men would once again do battle over the LU Championship but this time Mundo was the champion and Puma was forced to put his career on the line in the match. In real life, Puma wanted out of his LU contract so he could go to the WWE but his LU contract stated he couldn’t wrestle anywhere else until this episode aired. The problem being this match was taped in June 2016 but didn’t air until October 2017, which meant Ricochet couldn’t sign with WWE for a whole 16 months. The reason, I mention all of this is because going into the match as long as you didn’t read the spoilers you expected Mundo to win since Puma was leaving but they pulled a swerve and had Puma win that match but then lose to Pentagon immediately after ending Puma’s LU career.

So based on their classic history and what we saw Monday night, I think a rivalry between both men should absolutely continue and a strongly suggest it over the U.S. Championship. If given the chance these men can truly create compelling television and could certainly help elevate any championship that is on the line. This may have been a planned throw away match to fulfill a segment but these men and the fans deserve so much more and it should continue. It is the best thing for both men’s careers and the WWE product for these men to continue this story as both men truly bring the best out in each other and they can create more classic matches and moments on much bigger stages.
