As noted on a recent press conference, STARDOM has revealed the full brackets of the inaugural IWGP Women’s Title Tournament.
A few months ago, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and STARDOM announced the celebration of their first-ever joint event for November and the creation of the brand-new IWGP Women’s Title.
During early September, STARDOM revealed that the tournament would feature a local bracket and an international bracket. As for the local bracket, the company announced that the tournament would count with the presence of a wrestler from STARS, Queen’s Quest, Donna Del Mondo and Oedotai.
However, as noted on today’s press conference, STARDOM has finally revealed the representatives of each unit. The participants of each unit for the local bracket of the IWGP Women’s Title Tournament are the following:
- STARS: SWA Champion- and also team leader-Mayu Iwatani.
- Queen’s Quest: Team leader Utami Hayashishita.
- Donna Del Mondo: Himeka
- OedoTai: 1/3 of the Artists of Stardom Champions, Momo Watanabe.
As for the pairings, STARDOM announced the following matches:
- First Round – Match 1: Mayu Iwatani vs Momo Watanabe (October 22, Korakuen Hall).
- First Round – Match 2: Utami Hayashishita vs Himeka (October 22, Korakuen Hall).
- Second Round: Winner Match 1 vs Winner Match 2 (October 23, Tachikawa).
The inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion will be crowned on the NJPW x STARDOM: Historic X-Over event, which will take place from the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, on November 20th.
Additionally, the company had also announced that the first title defense would happen at next year’s WrestleKingdom event.
Who’s In The International Bracket Of The IWGP Women’s Title Tournament?
As for the international bracket, STARDOM presented Ava White and “Alpha Female” Jazzy Gabbert as the only competitors. Additionally, the company also announced a few weeks ago that former WWE Superstar KAIRI would be competing in the international bracket as well.
During night 2 of NJPW’s Royal Quest event, Jazzy Gabbert defeated Ava White and moved on to the semifinals. Thanks to this result, “Alpha Female” will now be facing KAIRI on October 23rd, during STARDOM’s show in Tachikawa.
