As noted on a recent announcement from STARDOM, Kairi Sane will be competing at the tournament to crown the first-ever IWGP Women’s Champion.
Kairi Sane is undoubtedly one of the most popular joshi wrestlers in the world right now. The Pirate Princess made a huge name for herself ever since debuting at World Wonder Ring Stardom and took her career to the next level when she signed with WWE in 2017.
After finding success and winning the NXT Women’s Title and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles (alongside Asuka), Kairi Sane left WWE in December 2021 after deciding not to renew her contract with the company.
Shortly after returning to Japan, Kairi Sane made her long-awaited return to STARDOM and started competing under the name of KAIRI. However, after testing positive for COVID-19 and losing her shot at the Wonder of Stardom Title, KAIRI has got a new opportunity to claim another championship.
During the streaming of today’s PPV event, STARDOM announced on a promotional video that ‘The Pirate Princess’ will be competing in the tournament to crown the first-ever IWGP Women’s Champion.
About her spot in the tournament, STARDOM stated that KAIRI received a first-round bye and will face the winner of ‘Alpha Female’ Jazzy Gabbert vs Ava White at the semifinals, which will take place at NJPW’s Royal Quest II event on October 23rd.
Besides KAIRI, Who Else Competes In The IWGP Women’s Title Tournament?
In addition to KAIRI and the previously stated competitors, the tournament will also feature five STARDOM competitors from some of the promotion’s team units.
The units who will be having a competitor on the tournament are STARS, Queen’s Quest, Donna del Mondo and OedoTai.
It is also important to mention that the finals will take place at the upcoming NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over joint event, which will take place on November 20 from the Ariake Arena in Tokyo.
