There is no shortage of stories about wrestlers being cheated by bookers in the wrestling business, and it happens too often. Wrestlers put their bodies on the line night in and night out, putting themselves through all manner of trauma.

It’s only right that they get properly compensated for their hard work because anything can go wrong at any time. Recently, at an indie wrestling event, numerous performers found themselves in a tough situation when the promotor disappeared.

Fortunately, the stars showed true dedication and pride by still putting on a show for the live audience.

Promotor abandons New Evolution Pro Event

Independent promotion New Evolution Pro faced a serious crisis on November 13th due to the promotor’s lack of professionalism. The event had numerous notable wrestlers on the card, such as Alberto Del Rio, Josh Alexander, Ultimo Dragon, and NOAH wrestlers.

However, before their 6-man tag match took place, they learned that the promotor had no money to pay them. Sean Sapp of Fightful.com covered the issue and wrote that the promotor disappeared after claiming to have a medical emergency.

Whatever money there was from autograph signings remained abandoned to be split between the wrestlers as only partial compensation. Most did not receive the full payment promised, as it was $14K less than it was supposed to be.

Josh Alexander chased the promotor down to count the money to ensure fans at least got saw the NOAH wrestlers. Other stars on the card that were shorted included Ricardo Rodriguez, and Japanese wrestlers Nakajima and Marufiji.

The 6-man tag still took place, though, as Alberto, Rodriguez, and Alexander fought Ultimo Dragon and the NOAH stars. After the match, Alberto was said to have cut a promo about the promotor not paying them their due.

It was an unfortunate situation, but the wrestlers were nice enough to entertain the fans and sign 8x10s for fans. The NOAH wrestlers weren’t paid at all, so the promotion will likely have to chase down what they are due.

It seems that there is zero interest from any major wrestling promotion to sign Alberto Del Rio.

Del Rio has had a negative light upon him after his run in WWE and Impact Wrestling as he has had may issues within his personal life. After all these issues, Del Rio has stated he has enough to return back to the squared circle. However, it seems that no major wrestling promotion is willing to take a chance in the former champion.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, he spoke about the reaction he has heard from major wrestling promotions about the chance of signing Del Rio:

“I’ve spoken with people from WWE, MLW, Impact who say they either have no interest in bringing Del Rio in or would be shocked if it happens. AEW talent I’ve spoken to say they’ve never heard him mentioned as even possibly coming in.”

This report comes with a link to a post from Fernando Salazar stating – “In 2022, Alberto is back in one of the three main companies in the United States.” It would also come of the comments made by Del Rio saying in a press conference, “If I go to AEW, I’ll be world champion. If I go to WWE, I’ll be world champion. If I go to IMPACT, I’ll be world champion.”

If Del Rio still has a desire to return to the ring, will be any company willing to welcome him to their roster?

Alberto Del Rio was released in August 2014 due to “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.” This was before his return in late 2015 when he captured the U.S. title against John Cena only to be fired again in September of 2016.

Apparently, Del Rio had slapped a writer or production assistant backstage due to some sort of issue regarding that employee leaving some items in the catering area. This would’ve reportedly angered Del Rio who went ahead and slapped the employee.

Dutch Mantell, broke down the situation to WSI’s James Romero:

“Somebody says, ‘Hey, you gonna take this with you?’ He says, ‘No, they’ll clean it up.’ ‘They don’t have anybody to clean it up.’ ‘Ah, Alberto will get it.’ And he’s just kidding. Well, he made Alberto very mad, and he stands up and he said, ‘Why did you say that?’ He took offense to it, so he ends up just open-handed slapping this guy. I don’t know if he knocked him down, but he stunned him.” (H/T Sportskeeda)

Alberto was reportedly surprised at his firing as he claims it was the employee who disrespected him so all he did was defend himself.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio has been telling people that he is set to return to the WWE when his legal issues are cleared up.

Alberto Del Rio is set to go on trail and is facing one count of aggravated kidnapping and four counts of sexual assault. The victim, who is Alberto Del Rio’s ex girlfriend, accused Del Rio of physical and sexual assault and also accused Del Rio of threatening to take her son and drop him in the middle of a road if she didn’t comply with what he said. The victim provided photos of her injuries to the police.

The WWE have not commented on this as of now and Dave Meltzer has said that it would shock him if it’s true.
