The Texas Death Match between Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland at AEW Full Gear has been awarded with Wrestling Republic’s Men’s Division Match of the Year award for 2023.
AEW stars Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland starred one of the most heated and intense rivalries of 2023, having faced each other in a brutal Texas Death Match at AEW Full Gear 2023 to temporarily close their rivalry.
The match, which also resulted to be one of the best bouts of the entire year, received five stars in the Wrestling Republic scale and solidified Swerve Strickland as a top AEW World Title contender.
WrestleMania 39’s Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. The Usos and Gunther vs. Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre were runners up in this category, which Page and Strickland ultimately won after a vote conducted by Wrestling Republic’s esteemed voting committee.
The Voting Committee’s Reasonings For The Choice
“I did an entire YouTube video on Swerve vs Hangman 2. It was cinema and told a phenomenal story through excellent action. I’m not always a fan of deathmatches, but this one had a purpose, so it made sense,” said Wrestling Republic Owner Ben Allison. He continued by stating that he was “drawn into the action from start until the finish, and it closed the chapter while leaving the book open to continue the story between the two men at a later time. This was a perfect example of when blood and brutal violence works in wrestling.”
In addition, Wrestling Republic’s Opinion Writer Archie Carter explained that “it was the perfect way to finish what was a very personal feud. It was everything you’d expect and more, great storytelling, nasty spots and the right winner.”

Ever since finishing his rivalry with Hangman, Swerve Strickland made it clear that his biggest goal is to challenge for the AEW World Title and become champion once and for all. So, fans could expect to see him competing in big matches and taking more steps to fulfill his goal.
Meanwhile, Hangman Adam Page is also aiming at regaining the AEW World Title but made it clear that he’s not done with Swerve yet. So the possibilities of seeing these two face each other again in 2024 are very high.
