Former WCW President Eric Bischoff has revealed he has no desire to return to WWE or AEW on a full time basis.
Former WWE SmackDown Executive Director, Eric Bischoff, has been relatively quiet in the wrestling industry since his departure in 2019. While he has since made occasional appearances for both WWE and AEW, he has not contributed significantly from a creative standpoint, a role that propelled him to fame during his tenure as WCW President in the 1990s.
In a recent interview on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Bischoff explained his reluctance to fully immerse himself in day-to-day wrestling operations. However, he expressed openness to the idea of working as a remote consultant, rather than being actively involved in a wrestling program.
“If I was 20 years younger, I’d [go back to WWE] in a heartbeat,” Bischoff admitted. “If I get a call from my buddy Bruce [Prichard] and he goes, ‘Interested in coming back? I need one of your fingers.’ As long as I’m on my left hand and not right, I’d probably go for it. I loved my time, and can’t say enough about the quality of people that work in WWE. But, I’m 68 years old, and I live in a beautiful part of Wyoming — right outside Yellowstone National Park. It’s been my dream to live here since I was a little kid, and I worked my ass out throughout my life to have what I have now. At this point, I don’t want to be away for extended periods.” (H/T WrestlingInc)
Could Eric Bischoff Return To AEW?
When asked about the possibility of joining AEW, Bischoff dismissed the idea, citing his lack of interest in working with Tony Khan. Despite their documented issues, the WWE Hall of Famer clarified that he harbors goodwill toward Khan and wishes him success.
“Tony has a very, very generous heart,” Bischoff acknowledged. “He’s a good human being. But the truth is, for me to have any sort of positive impact on the process, you have to be in it. You can’t do it remotely. If Tony calls me and offers me a million dollars to work via Zoom, I wouldn’t do it because I know it wouldn’t be fair. It won’t be successful.”
Eric Bischoff’s post-WWE career has been marked by occasional appearances, but he has refrained from taking on a significant creative role. While he remains open to remote consulting opportunities, his desire to enjoy his dream lifestyle in Wyoming has taken priority over an active wrestling career. As for AEW, despite his personal differences with Tony Khan, Bischoff wishes the company well and believes that true impact can only be made through direct involvement rather than remote work.
