NJPW Star KENTA has dashed the hopes of fans worldwide, declaring that a dream match against AEW star CM Punk will “never” occur.

This revelation comes as a blow to wrestling enthusiasts who have long yearned for the two iconic figures to clash in the ring. The feud between KENTA and Punk traces back to an accusation made by KENTA, asserting that Punk had pilfered his signature ‘Go To Sleep’ finishing move.

In a momentous return to AEW after a ten-month hiatus, last night CM Punk graced the debut episode of Collision, leaving fans eagerly speculating about his opponent for the forthcoming AEW’s ‘Forbidden Door’ crossover PPV with NJPW. Many enthusiasts believed that this event presented the perfect opportunity for the long-anticipated dream match between KENTA and Punk, both former WWE stars, to finally materialize.

However, the bitter real-life animosity between the two wrestlers regarding the ‘Go To Sleep’ maneuver has seemingly extinguished any glimmer of hope for this monumental clash.

Why Did The Move Cause Friction Between KENTA & CM Punk?

KENTA, widely regarded as the original creator of the GTS move, previously accused Punk of appropriating it without permission. Furthermore, KENTA claimed that his own use of the maneuver was restricted for much of his career due to Punk’s employment of it in WWE prior to him. Although KENTA had issued a challenge to Punk at a NJPW event in 2021, the latter never responded, adding fuel to the existing tension.

While KENTA recently stated that he would only face CM Punk if he received a substantial monetary offer, he has now taken to Twitter to quash the rumors surrounding the match, firmly stating that a showdown between KENTA and Punk will “never” transpire. It is worth noting that in the wrestling world, wrestlers have been known to dismiss the notion of dream matches when rumors circulate, aiming to surprise fans when such events do occur.

The highly anticipated AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door extravaganza is scheduled to take place on June 25th at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada. While CM Punk has not yet been officially announced for the show, wrestling enthusiasts around the globe eagerly await any potential revelations regarding Punk’s involvement in a forbidden door match.
