I also greatly apologise for not publishing my review last week, I’m currently on holiday, so I wasn’t able to get the show up, due to travelling issues.

GREAT Deonna Purrazzo vs KyLinn King

It was a great decision to put two of the best in-ring performers in the knockouts division against each other, because it was, unsurprisingly, pretty good. King is great, and showcasing her power really well, when she catches a hurricane-rana of the Virtuosa, and just slams her down. It does frustrate me slightly, that King isn’t featured on Multiverse United 2, as she’s had great performances against two of the top knockouts currently (Deonna and Trinity). After a hard-fought battle, Deonna is able to lock in the Fujiwara for the win, and gain some momentum for her two upcoming title matches. Good, hard-fought opener.

Result: Deonna Purrazzo by Submission via. Fujiwara armbar

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

We get an appearance of Trinity, watching from the back, as Deonna celebrates.

Gia Miller interviews Kenny King about Johnny Swinger choosing to challenge him at Emergence. King insults Swinger’s age, and calls him a joke, which are both valid points.

Santino is calling Kevin Knight a Panther, which is very true, as he is incredibly agile. The needle mover Bully Ray then comes into frame, and we continue the storyline with PCO, as Bully begs for the No DQ match to be called off. Myers then asks for a match with Shelley, I think it’s set for next week, but they don’t do well in clearing it up. Moose and Myers are quite a fun duo, and continue to show that in this segment, as they list off their Emergence opponents and call them cowards. As Moose calls Kushida a coward, Kevin Knight intervenes, and defends his mentor, which is understandable. Santino sees the tension, and makes Moose vs Kevin Knight for later in the night. Shelley then comes into frame, and grants Myers a title match for next week. Should be good, I think Brian Myers is grossly underrated right now, so it’ll be good match no doubt.

GOOD Jessicka vs Savannah Evans vs Killer Kelly

The two hosses immediately square up, with Kelly being creepy and observant as always. Kelly keeps trying to intervene, but Jessicka pushes her away, saying “you must be this tall to ride these rides”, which was pretty funny. While this match may not have been very long, it was really enjoyable, with every woman getting something in, and the three having a short, but chaotic brawl. MK Ultra continue to bring relevance to the womens tag division, with this being another enjoyable instalment in their story.

Result: Killer Kelly by Pinfall via. DVD

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

Next is a Dirty Dango promo, this time on Jake Something. Enjoyable promo, I enjoy his unique promo style. Good way to build the feud with Something.

GREAT Moose vs Kevin Knight

This match is presented as a proving grounds for Knight. Moose hit Knight with a nasty sky high early on, which led to a comeback sequence from Knight. The comeback is shorty put to a close, and Moose continues to dominate. The crowd is firmly behind Moose, which is fair enough, as his offence is tremendous here. At one point, Knight goes for a float over DDT, but Moose just tosses him out the ring. Impact then go to picture and picture, which is something new for them, so I can really appreciate them upping production. The crowd finally get behind Knight, after he shows some of his freakish athleticism, with an amazing avalanche hurricane-rana, which he doesn’t even climb up the ropes for. Knight gets an incredible near fall off a code red, after a series of roll-ups. Moose eventually puts Knight away, with a spear that turns Knight inside out.

Result: Moose by Pinfall via. Spear

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

A backstage interview with the Rascalz is interrupted by the ABC, who accuse them of paying off the Good Hands last week, to attack them. Santino sets up Good Hands vs ABC for next week. I really liked there match at Against All Odds, so this does excite me.

BELOW AVERAGE Eric Young vs Kon

Typical David vs Goliath match here. Big fan of this storyline, and it was good seeing EY overcome the odds. Sadly, it ends with the obvious DQ, which makes sense storyline-wise, so it’s not terrible.

Result: Eric Young by Disqualification

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.25 Stars

We see The Design recreate their assault from weeks prior on EY, with Deaner sitting upon Young once again. I hope they do more of the cinematic stuff with this rivalry, as I’m not feeling all these assault angles currently.

Joe Hendry and Yuya Uemura, officially form a tag team, with them having a musical montage to show it. I really like these two as an odd couple team. The video was corny, but was also good fun. Also, I’d probably sell my left kidney to see Joe & Yuya as tag champs, so hopefully this goes somewhere.

Crazzy Steve sits down with Tom Hannifan and talks to him about family, and his struggles with his father and his alcoholism. This is a really powerful promo, Steve talks about how his mother was never able to see him sign with Impact, as she took her own life three weeks before he debuted. Steve then says he’s not crazy. Cannot stress enough how powerful this is, highly recommend checking this out, as it’s a side of Crazzy Steve that we’ve never seen before.

We then go to Chris Sabin, who hypes his upcoming match-up at Emergence. He is then interrupted by Samuray Del Sol, who calls himself the greatest luchadore of all time (obviously not true, but we’ll roll with it). Samuray says he wants Rush aswell, although he’s not in the arena, so Sabin challenges him for next week, the match is made.

BELOW AVERAGE No Disqualification: Bully Ray vs Black Taurus

An decent, albeit slow No DQ match. It was fine, nice seeing Taurus get a spotlight here, even if the finish was stupid. Taurus gets pinned after missing a senton, and landing onto a ladder. For the “beast of Decay” I think more should’ve been done to put him down personally.

Result: Bully Ray by Pinfall

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.00 Stars

After the match, PCO then appears, which is followed by Bully putting him through a table, with the weakest looking chokeslam ever. PCO then immediately gets back up, and scares Bully Ray off. The blow off will probably be a PCO hardcore match, which I hope will justify this feud happening.

Eddie refuses to go his separate ways with Kaz, which leads to Kaz and Eddie agreeing to settle the score in Killer Kowalski’s wrestling school. This sounds like a great blowoff too the rivalry, which I much prefer too them doing a mixed tag.

SANADA vs Jake Something is announced for Emergence. I love Impact Wrestling.

Trinity vs Jody Threat is also announced, which will also be pretty good.

GREAT Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Tournament Final: Rich Swann and Sami Callihan vs The Rascalz

Two great teams here, no critiques with the in-ring action from me, as it flows as smoothly as you’d expect. My favourite spot of the match was when Callihan spiked Wentz into Miguel, with a Cactus Driver 97. This was a great tag main event, nice to see the Rascalz get the title match. They’ve been getting a good push since their return, so wouldn’t be shocked if they won the belts.

Result: The Rascalz by Pinfall via Upfire Flame

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

Overall…

A great episode of Impact Wrestling, with three matches that I really recommend checking out. The women’s action was as strong as always, with two really enjoyable contests kicking off the show. The Bully Ray match did weight the show down, but that didn’t take up too much time, so it is what it is. They did well building too next week, and have me hooked, and ready for the matches that they did well in setting up. The main event was great, and is in contention for MOTN with the opener.

The now-former Impact star tweeted, “After last night’s Impact episode “I am no longer with @IMPACTWRESTLING. My contract has expired, and I decided to decline their new offer. So now I’m gonna be doing my thing on the independents. Hit up bookwilliemack@gmail.com if you want to see me in ya city or town. #MackMode”

Mack has already made his name known in popular indy promotions such as PWG, NWA, and Lucha Underground, as well as other note-worthy promotions. It’s also worth noting that he was briefly signed to WWE back in 2014 to a developmental deal. All seemed well at first, but he was let go before moving to Florida due to issues with his knee and blood pressure. Being a star of desirable size, it’s not out of the question for him to sign again for another shot, assuming his health is better this time around.

Willie Mack was a tremendous talent while with Impact and took part in several great stories. While signed he teamed with Rich Swann to pursue the Impact Tag Team Championships but would never seize the gold. He would find better success in the X-Division however, becoming the X-Division champion by beating Ace Austin and holding the title for three months before dropping the belt to Chris Bey. Mack also won Impacts One to Watch in 2020 at the promotions annual Year-End Awards.

It’s unknown where he will end up next. He may stay on the indies, but he could also sign with WWE or AEW. The latter has become known for its tryout matches for popular independent wrestlers, so it’s not out of the question that Willie Mack could end up on AEW television soon.

AVERAGE Moose comes out to the ring and talks about how he has proven that he is the greatest Impact World Champion. Moose says that when people come into the ring with him, their lives change, for the worse. Heath comes out and interrupts Moose. Heath talks about how Moose has not done anything about Team Honor No More. Moose then says he doesn’t care about Honor No More or Impact, and he says he doesn’t care about Heath or his kids. Heath attacks Moose and it leads to a brawl. The segment ends with Heath holding up the Impact World Championship.

AVERAGE Heath runs into Team Impact as they are looking to get some revenge on Team Honor No More. Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -2.75 Stars.

AVERAGE The Influence appears to question Kaleb as The IInspiration comes up to them and talks about how they are excited for their title match at Sacrifice. Jessie then asks Kaleb if he will be there as Madison snaps at her. Things start to get heated and Cassie slaps Madison as things start to spiral out of control until Kaleb calms everything down. Madison challenges Cassie to a match, to which she accepts. The IInspiration then leave and tell Kaleb bye as they walk off.

AVERAGE Gia appears backstage with Jake Something and asks him about the loss in his tag match he had with Trey Miguel Before The Impact. Trey comes up to him and tries to console him about their loss to Ace Austin and Mike Bailey, but Jake gets angry at him and it causes Trey to get angry. Jake leaves before Trey can say more.

AVERAGE John Skyler and Bhupinder Gujjarr: Brian Myers join in on commentary for John Skyler and Bhupinder Gujjar’s match.  The match itself was a solid match with Bhupinder Gujjar getting the victory.

RESULT: Bhupinder Gujjarr defeats John Skyler via pinfall

AVERAGE W. Morrisey comes out and looks to attack Brian, but John Skyler saves him before he can get hurt. Brian escapes as John gets piledrived through the announce table by W. Morrissey.

AVERAGE: Steve Maclin sits down and talks about Eddie Edwards and says that Eddie will answer to him next week.

AVERAGE Deonna Purrazzo and Lady Frost:  Lady Frost answers the challenge of Deonna Purrazzo’s “Champ Champ Challenge.” Lady Frost goes for Deonna’s triple AAA Women’s championship. This was a good title match and Lady Frost gave it her all, but Deonna would get the win by making Lady Frost tap out. Gisele Shaw comes out to steal the spotlight from Lady Frost after her loss against Deonna Purrazzo.

RESULT: Deonna Purrazzo defeats Lady Frost via submission

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -2.75 Stars.

AVERAGE Backstage, the Bullet Club appears, and Jay White talks about G.O.D, saying what he did to them was not personal, but just business. Violence By Design comes up to them and talk about how they are owed a shot for the tag team championships. G.O.D then enters and jumps Bullet Club and everyone begins to brawl. Bullet Club flees as G.O.D and Violence By Design exchange glances and walk away.

SQUASH Jonah and Zicky Dice: Jonah dominated the whole match and defeated Zicky Dice. After the match Jonah landed another splash to Zicky before walking off.

RESULT: Jonah defeats Zicky Dice via pinfall

AVERAGE Gail Kim stands by backstage as Jonah appears. Gail tells him that he can’t keep attacking his opponents after the match. Jonah then tells her to give him real opponents then. Gail then gives him a match with PCO at Sacrifice. As Jonah walks off,  asks for a match with Jonah next week, which Gail accepts.

AVERAGE Gail sits down with Chelsea Green and Mickie James. Mickie asks Gail if Chelsea and her if they can face each other at Sacrifice. Tasha Steelz and Savannah Evans barge in Gail’s office. AVERAGE Team Honor No More and Team Impact: Team Honor No More wins against Team Impact in an exciting six man tag match.

RESULT: Team Honor No More defeats Team Impact via pinfall

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -3.0 Stars.

AVERAGE: Maria introduces Eddie as he comes out to the ring. Scott D’Amore makes Impact members leave. Eddie then talks about how he felt when ROH took a hiatus, he felt betrayed, but it wasn’t the reason why he decided to join Honor No More. He then goes on to talk about how when Kenny was in Impact, how he disrespected Impact and how everyone failed, but he won against Kenny Omega in a six man tag match. Instead of getting rewarded for it, Josh Alexander gets a championship match while Eddie gets nothing. He then explains how Impact has turned on him. Alisha Edwards comes out and tries to figure out why Eddie did what he did She then asks Eddie why she was still his family. Eddie tells her it is up to her and leaves with Honor No More.

Overall, tonight’s episode of Impact lacked a little bit compared to last week. Still, it was a solid episode with some decent matches and segments. A positive thing from tonight’s episode was the main event match featuring Honor No More and Impact. The storyline between these groups keep getting better and better as the story continues to progress. Another positive thing from tonight, was the ending segment with Eddie standing in the ring with Honor No More as he explains his actions at No Surrender. A negative thing would be the lack of matches. It felt like there were a lot of promos and not really a lot of matches tonight.  Regardless, tonight’s episode was pretty decent, but it could have been better.

AVERAGE Eric Young sends a message to Jay White before their match tonight. Eric ends the segment by saying that he is the best wrestler that professional wrestling has ever seen.

RESULT: Jonah defeats Black Taurus via pinfall

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -2.25 Stars.

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -2.25 Stars.

AVERAGE We see Mickie James offering a title match to Chelsea Green if she is successful in her match tonight with Tasha Steelz.

AVERAGE Matt Cardona and Jordynne Grace: This was another solid match, but not anything special. Matt Cardona has been looking good as of late with his new attitude change. Jordynne looked dominate in this match, but the ending could have been better for both her and Matt instead of Jordynne low-blowing Matt for him to get the win. After the match Jordynne went to continue to attack Matt, but he leaves before she can do more damage.

RESULT: Matt Cardona defeats Jordynne Grace by DQ

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -2.25 Stars.

AVERAGE Gia is backstage with Tasha in head of her championship match with Mickie, when it is shown that Eddie Edwards was attacked, making him unable to compete in tonight’s tag match with Team Impact.

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -2.75 Stars.

AVERAGE Rich Swann informs the group that Eddie Edwards was not medically cleared to fight tonight, which leads to him bringing in Willie Mack into the group.

RESULT: Moose defeats W. Morrissey via pinfall

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -3.75 Stars.

GOOD Team Impact and Team Honor No More: After all the build up, we finally get to see Team Impact and Team Honor go head to head against each other. This was great match with another shocking ending as Eddie Edwards appears to be helping Team Impact only for him to turn on them and join Team Honor No More. The match ends with Eddie standing side by side with Team Honor No More after their successful victory.

RESULT: Team Honor No More defeats Team Impact via pinfall

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: -3.75 Stars.

Overall, this was an fantastic PPV from Impact Wrestling tonight. The matches were fun to watch, their was some good storytelling in some of the matches, and the crowd seemed to enjoy the PPV. Some positive things about tonight’s episode was the main event tonight. It was a shocking twist to see Eddie turn on Team Impact and no one suspected him to do it, making his turn really good. The next positive thing was the tag team match with the Good Brothers and G.O.D. Not only was the tag match good, but it also had a shocking twist with the Bulllet Club members, Chris Bey and Jay White turning on G.O.D. This will be exciting to see how this will play out on Thursday on Impact. Another positive thing was the opening fatal four way match. Everyone involved in that match did extremely well. The match had the crowd excited for what they were going to do next. Something negative about tonight’s episode would be the ending of the Jordynne Grace and Matt Cardona match. Matt is starting to get a push in Impact and Jordynne is already popular and over with the fans. The ending itself just didn’t do any favors for Matt or Jordynne. This could however been a way to keep their rivalry going, so we should see going forward. Again this was a great PPV and it’s definitely worth watching.

AVERAGE Team Impact tries to convince Scott to let Josh Alexander back on the team, but Scott tells them no. Team Impact starts thinking about asking ROH World Champion, Jonathan Gresham to be on their team.

RESULT: W. Morrissey wins by against Brian Myers

Aaliyah Alexander WR Star Rating: – 3.0 Stars.

Overall, this episode of Impact Wrestling was good to watch. Some positive things that happened during this show was the No DQ main event with Brian Myers and W. Morrissey. The match itself was pretty good and fun to watch between Brian and Morrissey. The ending of the match made sense since Morrissey was able to get the victory and gain some momentum. This was also a good build up for Morrissey title match with Moose at No Surrender. Another good thing that happened during the show was the non championship match between Chelsea Green and Mickie James. This was a good way to keep the Tasha and Mickie storyline progressing. Not only that, but this helps Chelsea and Mickie to continue their storyline and maybe a future rivialy later down the road. Lastly the build up between Team Honor No More and Team Impact has had a pretty solid build up and it has continued to progress ahead of their tag match at No Surrender. There weren’t really any negative things in this episode of Impact, because we got to see the continuation of several storylines, good matches, and much more!

The post “Decent Episode” Impact Review 01/13/2022 appeared first on Wrestling Republic.

Impact wrestlers such as Willie Mack and Rich Swann tried in vain to fight off the invaders but were beaten into submission. Those on commentary seemingly had no idea what to make of what was happening and speculated that it was a full-on invasion from ROH.

Scott D’Amore was asked about the events that transpired but simply replied that he needed to make a call to Baltimore, which is the location of the ROH headquarters, to try and get some answers. This angle is likely ROH’s way of staying in the headlines until their hiatus can end in April of this year.
