GREAT No DQ: Eric Young vs Deaner

Some unique blue lighting for the show tonight, not sure how I feel about it, too dark for me. That being said, I do like the stage design however, looks nice. The match itself was an unsurprisingly violent match, to cap off an incredibly violent feud. A wide assortment of weapons are used, with my personal highlight being the staple gun, which Deaner gruesomely shoots between EY’s fingers and in his armpit. The crowd are active throughout this match, with them chanting “You still suck” at Deaner, after he smashes EY round the head with a chair, whilst a trashcan is over his head. I really enjoyed this match, Deaner stood his own, and the two had a really entertaining match. The use of weapons was well done, and we got multiple entertaining spots out’ve it. With the Toronto crowd firmly behind Young, it added tension to the match, and the loud crowd reactions really got me into it. The finish comes after EY ends up hitting both Kon & Deaner simultaneously (yes simultaneously, genuinely crazy feat of strength) with a DVD onto the barbed wire board, which he follows by piledriving Deaner onto the barbed wire board. Great finish to a great match. Eric Young finally vanquishes his own creation.

Result: Eric Young by Pinfall via. Piledriver

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

Joe Hendry and Yuya Uemura are interviewed next. Gia asks Joe about how this team came about, and Joe talks about how he can’t stay a solo artist his whole life. Yuya then snatches the mic out’ve Gia’s hand and asks “CAN I GET A JOYA!”, Gia then complies. I know there’s people who won’t like this, but I was entertained, and I really want this team to go far.

Next we see Taylor Wilde hurt backstage, with her Coven partner, KiLynn King accusing Jody Threat of being the attacker. King is obviously frustrated, as her tag title match is up next, but Santino somewhat eases her concerns, as she still gets to be in the match, but with Jody Threat as her partner.

GOOD Knockouts Tag Team Title: MK Ultra vs Death Dollz vs Gisele Shaw and Savannahs Evans vs Jody Threat and KiLynn King

This was an enjoyable match, with the two main storylines/arks of the match being Jody and King not getting along, and the Death Dollz having the best tag team psychology. Both storylines were presented well and played out well. The match picks up more, and gets more chaotic as it goes on, with MK Ultra securing the win, by simultaneously dumping Rush on the head.

Result: MK Ultra by Pinfall

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

Enjoyable Swinger interview before the match, not that much to comment on.

AVERAGE Digital Media Title: Johnny Swinger vs Kenny King

This is the most competitive Johnny Swinger match you’ll ever see, with Swinger outsmarting King at nearly every turn early on. At one moment, we get a glimmer of hope that the Swingman may have done it, as Heath delivers a wake up call to King, behind the referees back. Sadly, he was unsuccesful, and was put down quickly after with a royal flush. Fun match, obviously nothing great, but it was fun.

Result: Kenny King by Pinfall via. Royal Flush

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.50 Stars

King’s assault on Swinger after the match is broken up by a crowd of road agents and referees. One of the people protecting Swinger is Tommy Dreamer, who is later attacked by King, setting up that rivalry. I’ve never been more uninterested in a potential future match.

Entertaining promo from Alexander and Time Machine next. Good fun, and nice build to the eight man tag.

MUST WATCH Tag Team Title: Subculture vs The Rascalz

This match was a beautiful romance of British and X-Division style wrestling. They built up this match well, as it ends up picking up in an incredible manor, and I get to witness some of the best tag team sequences I’ve ever seen. I was going to deduct this 0.25 stars for the interference of the Good Hands and the ABC, but they make up for this with the awesome moment of Dani Luna diving onto the Good Hands. This amazing tag match is capped of with a title change, as the Rascalz are able to take the win with a nasty foot stomp/burning hammer combination.

Result: The Rascalz by Pinfall via Foot stomp/burning hammer combination

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 4.75 Stars

We then get a promo from the heel team in the eight man tag. I enjoyed this one a lot more, as Bully embraces Lio, and officially lets him join their group text. We also see Lio mention PCO, which is good continuity, and adds some tension between the heels for later on.

Back to School Match: Frankie Kazarian vs Eddie Edwards

I always like when Impact do cinematic segments/matches and this is no exception. This was really interesting. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the match move-wise, I really liked the dynamic they had here. Eddie repeatedly reminded Kaz of his accomplished, and called Kaz a failure to his mentor. I don’t think I can rate this, due to it being cinematic, but I liked what they tried here.

Result: Eddie Edwards by Pinfall via Boston Knee Party

This segment ends with Eddie smashing Kaz over the head, with a picture of Kowalski. They then situate the camera similar to Walter White’s death scene, with Kaz laying down helpless next to the picture of his trainer. Kaz is now at his lowest point, it’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here.

AMAZING SANADA vs Jake Something

I was highly anticipating this match, and it lived up to all my expectations. SANADA spent most of the match trying to work over the bigger man, as Something just used his power advantage to dominate at times. This match go “this is awesome” chants, which is a good representative of how good the match was. Even in defeat, Something had a great performance, that really made me believe that he could be main eventing for Impact later on down the line.

Result: SANADA by Pinfall via. Deadfall

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 4.25 Stars

The two men shake hands after the match, which was understandable, as Something took SANADA to the limit.

GREAT Brian Myers, Bully Ray, Moose and Lio Rush vs Josh Alexander and Time Machine

This tag match was simply hectic. Every man got a good amount of stuff in as things got going. Canada is the best place for Alexander’s first match back (in an Impact ring), as the crowd were raucous for him, and most of the moves he did. As soon as the referee is assassinated by Brian Myers, the chaos goes up by tenfold, as with no tag rules, it’s every man for themselves, with Sabin crashing through a table soon after the ref is taken out. This is soon followed by KUSHIDA going through a table, thanks to a final hour from Rush. Two awesome spots back-to-back. As Bully looks to put Shelley through one next, the lights go out, and PCO shows up, to a big ovation. Bully and the Most Professional Wrestling Gods triple powerbomb PCO through the table, but he immediately gets up as Hannifan shouts “HES ALIVE!” in a funny nod to Frankenstein. As PCO looks to chase away Bully Ray again, STEVE MACLIN RETURNS. He takes out PCO and stares down Josh Alexander, teasing the match we never got. The two then brawl, until they’re separated by security. Josh then starts selling an arm injury, which he got from Maclin. This is soon followed by Shelley leaving the match after he miscommunicates with Josh, finally adding some much needed tension to their future affair (hopefully we get Shelley vs Alexander vs Maclin in the main event of Bound For Glory). As Shelley leaves, Moose take advantage and spears Alexander for the win.

Result: Moose by Pinfall via. Spear

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

This match did really well in building towards the future matches between Alexander, Shelley and Maclin, along with building towards Rush vs Sabin/KUSHIDA and PCO vs Bully. Really fun match aswell.

I always forget to mention this in the reviews, but Trinity’s hair is incredible. She’s made it look like the Canadian flag, which looks really nice.

Before the main event, we’re greeted with the announcement that Gail Kim will be the special guest commentator for tonight.

AMAZING Knockouts World Title: Trinity vs Deonna Purrazzo

Quite the opposite of the Subculture match. A bombastic main event that gets you interested with big moves right away. Both women gave it their all here, with some nasty offence being shown throughout (with one of the best spots being Deonna spiking Trinity’s head into the floor early on). Trinity shown some good psychology here, with some arm selling stopping a starstruck at one point, and forcing her to use her legs for the starstruck in the finish. Amazing match, love seeing the knockouts main event.

Result: Trinity by Submission via. Starstruck

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 4.25 Stars

The show then ends with the announcement of Will Ospreay at Bound For Glory, which is pretty awesome. Hopefully we get that match against Mike Bailey that was supposed to happen at the first Multiverse United. That being said, Rich Swann would also be a pretty cool opponent.

Overall…

It was a good PPV for Impact Wrestling, as the Canadian crowd came through and made it a night to remember. While Trinity and Deonna impressed in the main event, I would have to give match of the night to Subculture vs The Rascalz, as they tore the house down. The return of Steve Maclin was also one to remember, and the revelation that he may actually be facing Alexander down the line, must be relieving to Impact Wrestling fans. Furthermore, We were treated to a very interesting match between Kazarian and Eddie Edwards, which was another enjoyable showcase of how good Impact can be when they use the cinematic format. The eight-man tag and opener were both good, chaotic fun, which made a good use of weapons, with EY finally putting the Design to rest in the opener. SANADA vs Jake Something was also a highlight, which did exactly what it intended to do, in showcasing the talents of both men. Great show overall, rarely any misses on this event.

GOOD Trinity/Deonna Purrazzo/The Coven Promo

Trinity is back in the building where she made her Impact debut. Deonna interrupts a wholesome Trinity promo, and warns her that nobody beats Deonna Purrazzo twice. We then get the Coven, who are evidently upset from their loss last week, address Trinity, before attacking her, causing a chaotic brawl between all four women. Santino comes out, and is pressured to make the tag match for right then and there, and now Trinity & Deonna face the Coven, while not even in their ring gear. Fun promo, got crazy in the end when they brought security into the ring. Deonna also hesitates before helping Trinity, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before.

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

GREAT Trinity and Deonna Purrazzo vs The Coven

While I have enjoyed the Trinity and Deonna matches, aspects of the feud itself have been underwhelming, as they’ve mostly been “can they co-exist” tag matches. We get our first “can they co-exist” trope, when Deonna stops Trinity from punching Wilde in the corner. The Coven are a very underrated tag team, and show it with tons of great offence on Trin and Deonna here. We get “this is awesome” chants, after everyone is left down, from a great exchange. The Coven are able to get the win after Trinity accidentally hits Deonna in all the chaos, and King gets a big win after hitting Deonna with the King’s Curse.

Result: KiLynn King by Pinfall via. King’s Curse

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

The Rascalz hype up their match later in the night, as it’s their first match in Impact in three years. Scott D’Amore has to spoil the fun however, as he reveals to them that he’s fined them 2 weeks pay, for re-entering the arena last week (which makes sense professionally, but he is killing the vibe).

Jody Threat comes to the defence of Tracy Brooks, as Alisha is bragging about running her out’ve impact. Jody vs Alisha is made for next week, which is good, assuming it builds to Kaz & Tracy vs Alisha and Eddie.

AVERAGE Heath vs Alan Angels

This match was worked well, no prevalent botches. Just a decent match here. Heath’s new direction as a vigilante character is very interesting to see, and I really like what they planned for him. Angels sold the wake-up call great at the end, hoping he gets involved back in the X-Division soon.

Result: Heath by Pinfall via. Wake-Up Call

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars

In an interview with Gia Miller, Eric Young tells us that the world will see what truly happened, between him and Deaner. This is their attempt in covering up a murder, very weird storyline direction.

SQUASH: Jake Something vs Davey Vega

This is what you’d expect, the jobber gets cocky straight away, which leads to Jake Something eating him alive. Very fun squash match, there is money in Jake Something.

Result: Jake Something by Pinfall via. Into The Void

Moose, Myers & Bully congratulation Lio for his decision last week, but Lio is still cagey on the alliance. I’m liking this aspect to the story, adds something for the 8-Man tag at Emergence.

The usual Joe Hendry pre-match promo, is as entertaining as always. He is clearly frustrated at Yuya Uemura, for injecting himself in this match. Yuya then comes down with a mic and says “I’m Yuya Uemura…CHAMPION!”, in a parody of Hendry’s usual schtick, which I found pretty funny.

GOOD Yuya Uemura vs Kenny King vs Joe Hendry – Digital Media Championship

Yuya and Joe attempt to be friendly, but as triple threat matches are, that friendliness fades away. We get a memorable spot here, as Joe Hendry sings his theme, while slapping the other guys’ chests to the beat. Yuya is seemingly very over in the Impact Zone, as he gets frequent chants throughout the night. Yuya gets a big kickout out’ve a cutter from Joe Hendry, before being put down by a royal flush from King, in a finish that keeps everyone strong. Really fun match.

Result: Kenny King by Pinfall via. Royal Flush

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.25 Stars

In a backstage interview with Bailey & Gresham, Gresham once again complains about the lack of rules, and how he’s sick of people like the Rascalz cheating. This Gresham storyline is very interesting, and there’s quite a few ways it could play out (Grand Championship return potentially?).

Crazzy Steve attempts to talk to Death Dollz (who want to be involved in the knockouts tag title match), but they avoid him and say they’ll talk later. I hope this means the full return of DeCay. Death Dollz have really staled for me recently.

GOOD The Rascalz vs Jonathan Gresham and Mike Bailey

Great tag team action from four great workers. Gresham does well in showing his anger against the lack of rules, as he chases Trey Miguel, after being hit by him whilst he wasn’t the legal man. Bailey and Wentz revisit their animosity at one point in this matchc, as they have a great exchange, before Bailey is able to manage the hot tag. Unsurprisingly, the Rascalz win again using the spraypaint, in a predictable, but understandable finish.

Result: Trey Miguel by Pinfall via. Spray Paint

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

We then get the anticipated vignette of Eric Young managing to get himself back to life, after Deaner seemingly killed him all those months ago. He coughs up blood and rides on a motorcycle, while delivering an awesome monologue, reminding everyone that he’s not dead yet. This was genuinely one of the best segments I’ve seen from Impact Wrestling in a long time. I can not stress how great they are at their cinematic stuff, it makes them stand out more and they do it really well.

Overall…

Once again, Impact delivers a very enjoyable night of action. The opening segment, and tag match, were done very well. As much as I’m not a massive fan of how they’ve built towards the Trinity vs Deonna matches, the tag match was very good, and the opening promo was pretty enjoyable. As much as it’s unfortunate to see Angels lose, Heath’s potential push with his current character does intrigue me, and I don’t hate the idea of a Heath singles push. The Jake Something squash was great for a squash, and made me further see how much money is in Jake Something. The triple threat was also really fun, although I believe it’s time for every one of the men involved to move onto something new (although I wouldn’t mind more Yuya and Joe tag stuff). The main event was enjoyable, but nothing crazy great. The finish made sense obviously, with this furthering Gresham’s story of him wanting more rules in Impact (as the spray paint was vital in the finish). The main event was a piece of cinema, it was what Impact does best, and they need to do more of. EY came out’ve it looking like the coolest man alive, and now I’m insanely hyped for the rest of the Design feud.

The show opens with Auntie Cheryl Penrith welcoming the fans to Wagga Wagga. She sounds quite nervous cutting the promo, but it really doesn’t mean much, as it’s just a short introduction.

GOOD Slex vs Adam Brooks

This match is between two of the local Australian talent, who have been in an apparent “decade long rivalry”. Slex has quite a fun entrance, with him getting a nice ovation upon coming out. Adam Brooks has a much more serious appeal, as he comes down with a stone cold expression on his face. They have a fast paced encounter in the beginning, with neither man gaining an advantage, showing how well the two know each other, as they reverse each others moves. Adam Brooks then hits the cheap shot, further cementing himself as the heel in this match. We then get a weird spot, where Slex saito suplexes Brooks on the apron, and then attempts to follow it with a suplex onto the apron, but Brooks lands weirdly, so it doesn’t end up looking very good. Later on in the match, they have a suplex spot, where the two men go crashing over the ropes from a suplex (which has poor camera work, which does slightly ruin the spot, but it gets “This is awesome” chants, so that makes up for it). The finish comes soon afterwards, as Slex counters the swanton from Brooks, and hits a “Slex-icution” (like execution, but his name, you get it?) for the win. This was a good match between two locals, there were some sloppy parts here and there, but nothing that really hindered the match that much. Got the crowd hot so you can’t complain about that.

Result: Slex by Pinfall via a Slex-icution

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.00 Stars

We then get a confident promo from the Guns, where they claim that they are the best tag team of all time (true). They hype their separate matches, and give us a reason to be excited for the upcoming title defences.

BELOW AVERAGE Gisele Shaw vs Erika Reid

“The Dreamtime voodoo witch” Erika Reid makes her debut here. Obviously the crowd are firmly behind her, as she is another one of the local competitors. After Erika gets early flurry of offence, Shaw then takes advantage and starts working over Reid’s arm. Shaw spends the majority of her time working over the left arm. During this period, the offence is slow and methodical, which makes sense as they are building up to Erika’s comeback. Reid finally finds her way back in with a DDT. She does her comeback one-armed, which I do appreciate, as she hits a combination of right-arm clotheslines. This is the last bit of offence we see from Reid, as taps out to a vicious arm bar from Shaw, which she really wrenches backwards. This match was some good momentum for Shaw for her title match tomorrow, as the arm bar one of the Virtuosa’s moves, so it creates some more tension for their match tomorrow. Decent match overall, nothing special in-ring wise.

Result: Gisele Shaw by Submission via armbar

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.25 Stars

Good promo from Maclin here, in-which he explains how he isn’t afraid to admit that he let his mission of facing Nick Aldis slip, because Shelley was the better man. He promises a different result in the main event.

AVERAGE Joe Hendry vs Eddie Edwards

Joe Hendry’s pre-match promo, he proclaims that he’s in a good mood, because of Impact’s debut in Australia. He then does his usual pre-match schtick, which is always good fun. While Hendry has never been incredible in the ring, his charisma helps him a lot when he wrestles, and it’s perfectly encapsulated here, when he smugly walks away from a dive from Edwards. Not a big fan of how Edwards’ character was presented in this match, I get that he’s a heel, but his character ark as of recent is that he’s a locker room leader that’s a bit of an unlikeable/awful guy. In this match he’s just playing the underhanded heel, when he could be doing much more. The finish is when Hendry catches Edwards with a Standing Ovation, when Edwards was going for the Boston Knee Party. Very average match here.

Result: Joe Hendry by Pinfall via Standing Ovation

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.50 Stars

BELOW AVERAGE Killer Kelly vs Aysha

Aysha comes out with a bit of the bubbly, as her character is that she’s a high class person. Aysha is frightened of Kelly right off the bat. She repeatedly backs into the corner when Kelly crawls at her. Kelly’s freaky demeanour, and versatile moveset always make for an interesting match. In the later stages of the match, Aysha chest, and spits some champagne in Kelly’s face, when the referee isn’t looking. Kelly ultimately gets the win with the Killer Clutch. This match was too one-sided to be a high rating, but I was entertained throughout, so that should count for something.

Result: Killer Kelly by Pinfall via Killer Clutch

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.00 Stars

GREAT Chris Sabin vs Frankie Kazarian vs Robbie Eagles – WATCH MATCH HERE

The crowd are firmly behind Robbie Eagles, as they loudly chant for Eagles, as they do his “Oi, Oi, Oi” chant. This was a well-paced X-Division match here. Every man got their moment/chance to shine, and it was an overall very enjoyable match, and the match of the night up until this point. Sabin hits Eagles with the Cradle Shock for the win.

Result: Chris Sabin by Pinfall via Cradle Shock

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.75 Stars

GREAT Moose & Brian Myers VS ABC

The purpose of this match is to build to the fatal four-way tag for the titles at Slammiversary. Because of this, this is a non-title match. The best spot of this match, was when Chris Bey went for his signature “too sweet” dive, but is caught by Moose in a powerbomb position and is spiked into the apron. This isn’t the only time when Bey and Moose stole the show this match, as right before his hot tag, Bey catches Moose with a cutter out’ve mid air. The finish had Bey outsmart The Most Professional Wrestling Gods, as he slips behind Myers, and gets in a schoolboy roll-up for the three count. This was a great tag match, between these two teams. It seems like the ABC can’t have a bad match. Moose & Myers suffer their first loss as a team, but it’s from a roll up so it’s not that bad.

Result: Chris Bey by Pinfall via roll-up

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 3.50 Stars

AVERAGE Steph De Lander vs Deonna Purrazzo

The first of two Virtuosa matches this weekend. When Steph De Lander enters, we get an enjoyable Heel hates their own homeland promo (which we do see very often, so I’m accustomed to it at this point). The story of this match is De Lander using her power advantage to overcome the Virtuosa, with Deonna trying to find ways around it. In the final stages of the match, De Lander grabs the mic and tells the crowd to shut up, which give Purrazzo the opportunity to get back into the match, and lock the arm bar in. Both Shaw and Purrazzo won with arm bars tonight, so you have to assume that’ll be a focal point of the match tomorrow. This match never really got going, it was slow-paced and didn’t really achieve much as a David vs Goliath match, as much as you’d want it to.

Result: Deonna Purrazzo by Pinfall via arm bar

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 2.50 Stars

AMAZING Alex Shelley vs Steve Maclin – WATCH MATCH HERE

This has a similar dynamic to their first match. Shelley goes for technical offence and Maclin goes for more power-focused moves. Shelley picks apart Maclin’s left knee, which ultimately contributes to his demise, as Shelley hits Shellshock for the win. This was 100% the best match of the night, great sequences throughout, and great selling from Maclin.

Result: Alex Shelley by Pinfall via Shellshock

Bailey Higham WR Star Rating – 4.00 Stars

Overall, this was an enjoyable show from top to bottom. The crowd was active for the whole night. We had three standout matches, with the rest of the card failing to reach those heights. The main event lived up to the height, as it was a great rematch of their Against All Odds affair. The lighting on this show was really poor, as it looked hazy and we weren’t able to see the full crowd in good lighting. The Purrazzo and Shaw matches were both meh, but the tidbit of them both winning with the arm bars helps build to their match tomorrow, so I’m not mad about the match quality being less than stellar. ABC VS Moose & Myers was fun, and served as good build towards the four-way tag, as I’m excited to see those four share a ring again. The X-Division three way is also worth checking out, with most of the other matches just serving as filler for bigger storylines, with not much really being advanced besides the women’s stuff. For example, Edwards vs Hendry really served no purpose for either man’s story and just felt out’ve place for me. The show structure was still good though, as they did well in building towards the main event with the promo packages.

Cardona has recently begged wrestling promoters to stop booking him in championship matches; he now holds seven different championship titles. On twitter he said:

“Dear wrestling promoters, Please stop booking against your champions. My suitcase is too heavy and is ripping. Love, Matt Cardona”

Now, to lighten his luggage load and gain internet clout, Cardona is giving billionaire Elon Musk an open challenge to his Internet Championship. He tweeted,

“If @elonmusk buys @Twitter, I’ll give him a shot at my Internet Championship”

This comes after Elon Musk made a tweet yesterday morning that said that he made an offer to buy Twitter. The Tesla CEO said that he is the right person to “unlock” the platform’s “potential” and that he would pay $54.20 per share or about $40 billion.

As unlikely as it is, If this dream match even did happen, it would undoubtedly be the biggest celebrity wrestling match as well as a major money maker in any indie promotion.

The idea of Elon Musk beating Cardona and being the Internet Champion is humorous as well. Even if that were to happen, Cardona would still be the IMPACT Wrestling Digital Media Champion, the AIW Intense Champion, the AIW Absolute Champion, the NYWC World Champion, and the NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Maybe if Musk and Cardona’s match goes well, Musk might let Sasha Banks be the first person to wrestle on Mars. He might even accept Triple H’s challenge to wrestle him on Mars as well. As all wrestlers love to say: Never say never.

Matt Cardona is now the new Impact Digital Media Champion.

On last night’s edition of Impact Wrestling, Matt Cardona would gain his first title within Impact Wrestling as he would defeat Jordynne Grace to become the new Digital Media Champion. Cardona is known for creating the Internet Championship back in WWE and has brought the title back and has defended it within Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) becoming a two time champion.

In the match, Cardona would use the belt to distract the referee and use that chance to stun Grace with a chair shot and finally hit his finisher (Radio Silence) to get the pin. Backstage, Cardona was interviewed about his win and would say it’s his biggest day in Impact. As well, Cardona was asked how his wife (Chelsea Green) would feel about his accomplishment, to which Cardona would reply saying he wonders how Grace’s husband (Ring Of Honor World Champion: Jonathan Gresham) feels being married to a loser.

With Cardona showing an eviler side to himself, could we end up seeing the “Deathmatch King” make his debut within the Impact Zone and maybe even face Gresham in a possible future match?
