Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio has added more detail on how the WWE plan to redesign the NXT brand.

According to Meltzer, it was Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard and John Laurinatis who were the one’s who made the calls on who to cut from the NXT roster. Meltzer says that Triple H and Shawn Michaels had nothing to do with the cuts. Meltzer also adds that the feeling is that members of the NXT roster are too small and too old and a direct quote given to Meltzer was…

“No more midgets, no one starting in their 30’s, they want people who can be box office attractions and main characters.”

Meltzer did however state that there can be exceptions to the rule, for example Adam Cole.

Meltzer also adds that the WWE are looking to go back to the older style of developmental of hiring younger and bigger wrestler that the promotion feels can be “box office attractions”. Whether this will be akin to the days of OVW or the early stages of NXT we don’t know.

Meltzer also adds that the feeling was that NXT “lost the war” when competing with AEW.
