It has been reported that a special on the King of the Ring will air on Fox during the weekend of October 1- October 3. According to PW Insider, the special is set to build anticipation for its return.
The King of the Ring tournament consists of sixteen superstars in a bracket. Much like any bracket, the superstars battle out until one superstar is remaining. That superstar gains the name “King of the Ring”. The tournament begun in 1980 and was held annually until 1991, with the exception of 1990. These tournaments started as non-televised house shows. In 1993, the WWE transformed the non-televised house show into a titled Pay-Per-View. The “King of the Ring” PPV continued annually until 2002. After the 2002 PPV, the show occurred periodically, appearing in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2015, and 2019.
“The special will air in different timeslots depending on your local market and will be a preview of the return of the King of the Ring tournament,” wrote Mike Johnson of PW Insider.
It has been reported that the final for the King of the Ring will take place in Saudi Arabia, at the WWE Crown Jewel PPV on October 21. The tournaments would begin in October and continue on during episodes of Raw and Smackdown, up until the Crown Jewel PPV.
