WWE Raw Jan 5 2025 Highs:
The main high of this show seems to be the main event. As a whole the only match to go out of your way to see is this match. Aside from a couple slips/rough bumps, CM Punk sold the damage and the offense of Breakker to great lengths. After the vision tried to interference, Penta, Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio all made the save to even the odds. I am glad Bron and Punk got more time beyond that as well. Some fun counters and reversals. Punk hitting a piledriver, trading cross faces and anaconda vices. Breakker fails to capture the title as Punk retains.
After months of feuding Raquel Rodriguez was protected in defeat last week, but now finally feels threatening. Raquel attacking an injured Stephanie Vaquer in the manner that she did, gave her some heat. It adds some excitement for what can happen within the Judgment Day girls stuff. It’s a good attack again that gives Raquel heat and engages us in Stephanie being viewable as an underdog.
WWE Raw Jan 5 2025 Lows:
After weeks of all of the gloating, AJ Styles can slap Gunther and Gunther just mean mugs him like AJ put Orange Juice in his cereal. Gunther isn’t directionless anymore as he has a one way ticket to Germany to brutalize AJ Styles. Getting slapped and doing nothing was such a cowardice act and feels odd to say when we have been trying to reinvigorate him with the new presentation and the big win.
Maxxine Dupri got the ball, people were excited to see her with the title. They presented her well with the video packages, the promos with Becky. Just like that two months of progress was taken away. Its an odd yet understandable decision but this match was such an afterthought. RhIyo with the titles is the right choice as well as Kairi and Asuka are destined to split with Kairi being the true face we know she is.
This Raw was meant to be two things. The anniversary show since going to Netflix. And a Stranger Things crossover special. Not once did either feel important. The production side was cool if you liked the series, but when Michael Cole said Raw is gonna get Strange and nothing special happens this crossover event becomes redundant. WWE was in a lose lose scenario because if they relied too heavily on Stranger Things it becomes one of the Raw XXX/25 or Legends Nights that can be fun but don’t do much for the show itself. The option they chose was work with special production but it didn’t matter after the first little segment with Cole and Corey coming out of the one vehicle.
WWE Raw Jan 5 2025 Overall Summary…
WWE Raw Jan 5 2025 failed to do anything important for the Raw on Netflix Anniversary or the Stranger Things crossover aside from altered production graphics. With a show filled with championship matches and only one of them actually delivering properly. The night was dominated by the Women’s Division with several new champions and finally some heat for the rivalry that the Women’s World Champion has been apart of. The Brooklyn crowd was tough to please as they really only cared about parts of the women’s tag title match and the main event. As a whole this was a weak Raw that did not deliver what it could have.
