With the loss of two of the greatest in professional wrestling WWE pays tribute to Hall of Famer Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt on SmackDown.
The professional wrestling world lost Terry Funk on August 23rd and Windham Rotunda “Bray Wyatt” on August 24th.
The August 25th edition of Friday Night SmackDown began with Michael Cole welcoming the wrestling world to the episode. The WWE did its traditional moment of silence followed by the 10 Bell Salute.
The entire WWE roster, as well as Erik Rowan was on the ramp paying tribute. A video package was then played highlighting all of the greatest Bray Wyatt career moments. This included the Wyatt Family, The Fiend, his run as the WWE Heavyweight Championship, and many more great moments.
After the conclusion of the video package concluded the fans sang his iconic “He’s got the whole world in his hands” lyrics before the camera would pan to Wyatt’s empty chair, then the lights went out.
Many Superstars paid their respects to both Bray Wyatt and Terry Funk all night. Later in the episode Cody Rhodes would pay tribute to Terry Funk.
Rhodes called both Wyatt and Funk “Cowboys” he stated “They were Cowboys in the best way”. Rhodes then went on to discuss the accolades of Funk’s career.
He also went on to thank Funk for giving “the rub” to the entire company. This was hinting at Terry Funk’s time in ECW.
There was a video package showcasing all of the greatest moments in Terry Funk’s Career. Then Cody introduced a Terry Funk Hardcore Match. The Street Profits defeated the Brawling Brutes.
To close out the episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Bray Wyatt’s lantern was left lit in the ring with an image of Wyatt shown on the screen. Fans brought out their “fireflies” and chanted “Thank you, Bray!” while SmackDown went off air.
