A new report shows that the relationship between WWE and 2K may be coming to an end, as WWE has had recent talks with a competing company, EA Sports, on bringing WWE gaming to the EA world.
Fightful Select reports that WWE has had recent talks with EA Sports about the possibility of switching from 2K to EA. This could be a groundbreaking change as they are two completely different gaming companies, and it would surely either have people very excited or very nervous as for what EA sports would do to the WWE gaming division.
WWE 2K22 releases globally on March 11th and it is advertised to be the biggest game in history. The last contract signed between WWE and 2K was in 2016 and was reported to be a six-year deal. If this new game is considered a success by fans around the world, then the chances of EA taking over are most likely slim. However, if WWE 2K22 is seen as a failure, the possibility of EA Sports taking over the WWE games franchise is more realistic than ever.
The conversations between EA Sports and WWE have been on and off for the last couple of years dating back to before the 2016 2K deal. Since the lackluster WWE 2K20 release and the poor reception from the WWE Battlegrounds game, the talks with EA have been increasing over the last two years.
It is reported that if WWE games move to EA, the games would be developed at the Vancouver studio, which is the same studio in charge of the UFC games. It is also reported that if EA Sports is to take over the franchise, we would most likely be looking at another multi-year wait for a new release.
As WWE 2K22 rapidly approaches us, and the 2K team sits and waits to see our reactions, we can do nothing else but sit and wait to see what the future of WWE games has in store for us.
