At the Royal Rumble on Sunday in San Antonio, Rhea Ripley joined elite company by becoming just the fourth competitor to win a rumble from the number one spot. Meanwhile, on this past week’s Raw, Ripley announced she will challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania. In honor of her big week, Ripley is today’s Wrestler of the Day.
After competing on the independent scene in Australia, Ripley was signed to WWE in 2017 and assigned to NXT. after appearing in the Mae Young Classic in 2017 and 2018, she joined the newly formed NXT UK. Her time in NXT UK saw her become the first NXT UK Woman’s Champion, holding the title for 139 days. This dominant run led to her return back to NXT in the US, where she was part of the team that defeated Team Raw and Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.
After dominating NXT, Rhea Ripley made her main roster debut in 2021. Later, She challenged and eventually defeated Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship. As a babyface, she held the Raw title for 98 days and was a tag team champion with Nikki A.S.H. Since this past summer, Ripley has been a part of Judgement Day, having an interesting relationship with Dominik Mysterio. Entering the 2023 Royal Rumble from the number one spot, Ripley lasted over an hour and eliminated seven other competitors.
