Lita got her start in a number of smaller promotions in both the United States and Mexico. Her work on the indie scene got her noticed by Paul Heyman, who brought her to ECW. While with ECW, she trained with Dory Funk, Jr. Funk was so impressed with her that he sent her tape to WWE, thus, leading to her signing there.
Lita became one of the biggest stars of the early 2000s in WWE, inspiring many current stars including Liv Morgan. She won four championships and partnered with a number of significant stars. Notably, she was a part of Team Xtreme alongside Jeff and Matt Hardy. Lita also had on-screen relationships with Kane and Edge. She retired from full-time wrestling in 2005.
Since then, Lita was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by fellow wrestler Trish Stratus. She has also made sporadic in-ring appearances, including two Royal Rumbles. In her most recent appearance, Lita challenged Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in 2022.
