Jon Moxley is one of the biggest and most accomplished stars in the history of AEW. He starred in WWE with The Shield before joining AEW in 2019. In honor of his birthday, Moxley is today’s Wrestler of the Day.
Moxley made his professional debut in 2004, wrestling for promotions such as HWA, IWA, and Dragon Gate. He became a multi-time champion on the indie scene before signing with WWE in 2011. Upon signing, Moxley was assigned to WWE’s developmental territory, wrestling under the name Dean Ambrose.
In 2012, Moxley, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns made their debut at Survivor Series, interfering to help CM Punk retain the WWE Championship. This began a very successful run in WWE for Ambrose as a single and tag team competitor. He won several championships in WWE before departing in 2019, due to frustration with the creative direction of his character.
Shortly after leaving WWE, he made his debut with AEW, using the name Jon Moxley, which he previously used on the indies. Since joining AEW, Moxley has been one of the faces of the roster, holding the AEW World Championship several times, including for 277 days as the second champion in AEW history. Most recently, Mox lost the AEW World Title to MJF after Moxley’s manager, William Regal, interfered on his opponent’s behalf.
