For years Johnny Wrestling was the face of NXT, producing five-star matches and headlining numerous NXT Takeovers. Since returning to wrestling, Gargano has appeared exclusively on the main roster. However, he returned to NXT, his home, for a feud with Grayson Waller. In honor of this return, Johnny Gargano is today’s Wrestler of the Day.
After training as a teenager, Gargano made appearances for smaller promotions and even appeared in dark matches for Ring of Honor and TNA. He became a regular with Chikara and Dragon Gate USA, where he competed to become the first Open the Gate champion, though he was unsuccessful. Gargano continued his indie career with PWG and in Japan before signing with WWE in 2016.
Johnny Gargano thrived in NXT, winning tag team gold as a member of DIY with Tommaso Ciampa. Despite their success as a tag team, both men thrived as singles competitors. In fact, Gargano had several memorable matches with Adam Cole. Despite his success on NXT, Gargano didn’t get the call to the main roster during his first stint with WWE. He took a wrestling hiatus shortly before the birth of his first child with his wife Candace LeRae.
After nine months and endless speculation, Gargano returned to WWE as a member of Monday Night Raw. Since joining the main roster, Gargano has yet to win a championship, although he reunited with former protege Dexter Lumis. He and his wife are both currently back with WWE. Johnny Gargano is set to face Grayson Waller at Stand and Deliver.
