Widely considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Bret Hart starred for WWE and later WCW. Unfortunately, his career in WCW started to deteriorate after suffering an injury in a match with Goldberg.
Born and raised in Canada, Bret “The Hitman” Hart joined his father’s Stampede Wrestling promotion in the 1970s. This came after a very successful career as an amateur wrestler. Hart became one of Stampede’s top stars, winning multiple championships until the promotion was acquired by WWE in 1984.
The bigger stage didn’t slow down The Hitman, as he became a major star and multi-time champion with WWE. Notably, he feuded with other major stars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. Of course, this feud with Michaels notoriously ended with the Montreal Screwjob. An event that saw Hart’s time with WWE ended with Hart losing the WWE title because the referee rang the bell while Michaels had Bret Hart in a submission hold. Hart never tapped out and the whole scenario was seen as an effort to embarrass Hart on his way out the door.
Hart then joined WCW where he wrapped up his time as a full-time performer. At Starrcade, Hart lost both the WCW title and suffered a series of concussions, leading to the end of his time as a full-time wrestler. He has since made sporadic, non-wrestling appearances mostly with WWE but also with AEW.
