During the spring of 2020, WWE, like the rest of the world was trying to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Their response was to film WrestleMania XXXVI at the Performance Center on March 25th and 26th and air it on April 4th and 5th. On the card, Braun Strowman defeated Goldberg to become Universal Champion. In honor of his winning the title two years ago, Strowman is today’s Wrestler of the Day.
The son of an all-time great softball player, Adam Scherr initially pursued a career in strongman competitions. While he won the 2012 Arnold Amateur, he was persuaded to pursue a wrestling career by the former world’s strongest man and WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry. Strowman signed with WWE in 2013 and reported to the Performance Center.
His main roster debut came in 2015 as a member of the Wyatt Family alongside Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan. In his time with the main roster, Braun Strowman has been successful both as a tag wrestler with the Wyatt Family and as a singles competitor. He won the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia and defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania XXXVI to become the Universal Champion.
Despite this success, WWE released Strowman in 2021. After appearing on the indies, Strowman ended speculation about his next move and returned to WWE in 2022. Since returning, he and Ricochet formed a tag team after Strowman caused a Twitter controversy. Strowman and Ricochet are teaming with the Street Profits in an eight-man tag match on Raw against Alpha Academy and the Viking Raiders.
