In a decades-long career in and out of the ring, Booker T has an extensive list of accolades. One of these is when he defeated Bobby Lashley at Judgement Day seventeen years ago today to become King Booker. In honor of this victory, he is today’s Wrestler of the Day.
Coming from a rough childhood, he lost both parents by age 16, Booker T looked at wrestling as a path to a better life. That success came as he went on to become one of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of WCW. In fact, Booker T holds the record for most reigns in WCW as a tag team champion and in singles competition as the World Television Champion. In a moment that was symptomatic of WCW’s downfall, he lost the WCW World Championship to Vince Russo.
He also achieved success with the WWE, winning a world title and becoming King of the Ring in 2006. Since retiring from in-ring action, Book has hosted a podcast and been a part of the commentary table on both WWE’s main roster and in NXT. In a final blaze of in-ring glory, Booker T was a surprise entrant in the 2023 Royal Rumble.
