Why WWE has not moved Santos Escobar to the Main Roster

With the recent WWE draft many names where moved from one brand to another as well as some call ups from NXT.

One name that wasn’t called up was former Cruiserweight champion Santos Escobar.

While recapping the latest episode of NXT 2.0 on Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the reasoning behind this decision.

Alvarez said, “I’m watching this match and I’m thinking [that] all they want is some Hispanic superstar that can speak English, and Santos Escobar is a great worker, he’s a good looking guy and he can speak English and he’s stuck here.”

Meltzer said, “Yea, that’s what they signed him for and then they obviously…”

Alvarez then asked why he is still in NXT because he is literally everything that WWE wanted in a Hispanic superstar.

Alvarez said, “I guess he’s not 7 feet tall  but he’s not 5’2.”

Meltzer said, “he’s not big and he’s not young.” Escobar is 37 years old.

Escobar lost his much anticipated NXT North American title match versus Isaiah “Swerve” Scott.

Santos has said that he and Legado Del Fantasma are ready for the main roster and even mentioned a possible feud with The Bloodline.

What the future holds for Santos and Legado Del Fantasma remains to be seen but a main roster call-up doesn’t seem to be in the plans just yet.
