Tony Khan has revealed that he is ‘excited to follow up’ on reports of a brand split within AEW following Double Or Nothing.
AEW is set to launch a new Saturday show called AEW Collision on June 17. The highly anticipated series will showcase fan-favorite stars such as Miro, Andrade, and Thunder Rosa, who have been absent from regular programming. However, recent rumors suggest that AEW might be considering a brand split among its roster members.
A brand split, a concept familiar to avid wrestling followers, is a strategic division of a wrestling promotion’s roster into separate brands. This division allows for unique storylines, rivalries, and championships within each brand, giving opportunities to more wrestlers and providing fans with a fresh and distinct experience.
During a media call prior to AEW Double or Nothing 2023, Tony Khan, the President of AEW, addressed these rumors and expressed his enthusiasm to provide further details about the future of the AEW roster after the upcoming pay-per-view event on May 28.
Khan acknowledged the curiosity surrounding the possibility of a brand split for AEW Collision, Dynamite, and other shows. He emphasized the deliberate strategy of generating intrigue and sparking questions about the future of the AEW roster. “I haven’t fully explained my plans for the roster and how we’ll allocate people across Dynamite, Collision, and our other shows. It’s a fantastic question, one that wrestling fans worldwide would find interesting. We want to build that curiosity and have people wondering about the future of the AEW roster and what it all means after Double or Nothing. It’s an excellent question, and we’re excited to follow up on it,” Khan stated. (H/T Fightful)
However, Khan stopped short of revealing any concrete plans regarding a potential brand split. While he expressed interest in exploring the concept, he refrained from making firm commitments during the media conference preceding Double or Nothing.
Furthermore, Khan touched upon the subject of new television deals, clarifying that the duration of the current term remains unchanged. He also revealed that Collision is an addition to their existing lineup, as Warner had approached AEW and offered them the opportunity to include the show.
As the launch of AEW Collision draws near, fans eagerly anticipate the future of AEW and the impact a potential brand split might have on their beloved promotion. The division of the roster could lead to fresh matchups, intense rivalries, and the birth of new championship opportunities, further enhancing the excitement and unpredictability of AEW’s already thriving wrestling landscape.
