NJPW has held their biggest event of the year, WrestleKingdom, on January 4th since all the way back in 1992. The event has always taken place in the famous Tokyo Dome, however 2022 may be different.
The dome is set to undergo renovations soon, and may go on for some time. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter the renovations may see New Japan be forced to change their tradition.
With no timeframe for how long the renovations will take it’s possible they may still be ongoing into the new year, and therefore may interfere with the scheduled WrestleKingdom 16 show.
It’s unclear whether NJPW would move the event to a later date so they can still use the dome, or move the site of WrestleKingdom entirely to still meet that January 4th date. Only time will tell.
