AEW may look different soon as Mike Mansury, someone thought to replace Kevin Dunn, is now Senior Vice President and Co-Executive Producer.

Earlier this week, AEW took a big step forward by hiring WWE’s former Vice President of Global Television Production. Mike Mansury was once said to be primed to replace Kevin Dunn as Executive Producer and Chief of Global Television Distribution.

That was before he left WWE when it became clear that Dunn would not be leaving any time soon. As of this week, he will continue his career as a behind-the-scenes wrestling figure.

He is now AEW’s Senior Vice President and Co-Executive Producer, and he’s already set to make some major changes. According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, Warner Bros. Discovery and AEW President Tony Khan agreed to change the company’s look.

Both parties have agreed that a change in the company’s look is due and it’s scheduled to take place next month. The extent of these changes is currently unknown at this time, but they will be noticeable and hopefully better.

It could be new graphics, a new stage setup, increased production value, or any other noticeable changes. For now, Mike Mansury will likely take this time to settle into his new role before anything significant happens.

Mike Mansury’s Work History

Before leaving WWE in 2020, many in the company were said to be high on Mike Mansury’s work. That is, except for Kevin Dunn, who was said to have made Mansury’s life difficult behind the scenes.

This was said to be due to Mansury rising through the ranks too quickly, but he left the company before long. After leaving professional wrestling, he joined The Pat McAfee Show, where he stayed until May last year.

Afterward, he worked for ONE Championship little over a year before making his way to AEW. If it’s true that Mike Mansury was set to replace Kevin Dunn, then Tony Khan was wise to sign him.

However, there are qualities of Dunn’s production that many fans dislike, and will likely continue to do so for AEW. This is assuming Mansury adapts Dunn’s production tactics to AEW TV, which remains to be seen.

Tony Khan says that AEW has a great relationship with WarnerMedia and that he is happy to promote other WarnerMedia properties.

AEW has been around since 2019, but its future is in the hands of its parent company WarnerMedia. Warner Bros merged with Discover, but the change has not been good for various properties under their umbrella.

Many TV Shows and films (some yet to be released) were canceled from WarnerMedia’s release slate to save money. With many cancellations, fans worried for AEW’s future on Warner television, but now Tony Khan says there’s nothing to fear.

The AEW president spoke about the two company’s relationship in an interview with Sporticast and said it’s beneficial for both. Khan claims WarnerMedia was very happy with AEW’s promotion of other Warner shows and is very optimistic for AEW’s future.

Tony Khan also spoke about the various factors that drove revenue in AEW, both separate and related to the WarnerMedia partnership.

“Live events are a huge revenue driver,” Khan said. “Merchandising is a huge revenue driver. We have huge sponsorships now. DraftKings has come in and has been an amazing sponsor for AEW this year. Also, as you said, media rights are a big part of it. Pay-per-view is a big part of it. We’ve been selling pay-per-views working with Bleacher Report, in-demand, pay-per-view providers, internationally on FITE TV’s streaming. And our TV deals are, I think, the biggest individual revenue driver.”

“And for us, we’ve got this great partnership with Warner Brothers Discovery, and we’ve got the rest of this year and next year. And they have been so good to us. And I feel, that not only was the original leadership so great to take a chance on an unknown company, but then post-merger, the Discovery leadership has been so supportive. And we’re getting opportunities now, with the new management, even bigger than we have before.”

Tony Khan on the AEW Crossover Episodes

Concerning AEW’s working relationship with WarnerMedia, Tony Khan also described the crossover episodes with other Warner properties. The most successful of which was the House of the Dragon edition of AEW Dynamite which drew high ratings.

“There’s a huge viewership for it. They gave us the opportunity to promote “Shark Week” in AEW, and to develop creative of our own to help further the promotion of “Shark Week.” And then, based on the success of that, they came back to us with a huge opportunity,” Khan said. “We had been working with WarnerMedia before Warner Brothers Discovery for years, and never had we had the opportunity to do integrations with HBO, let alone with the #1 show on TV right now in “House of the Dragon.”

“And to have the opportunity to promote “House of the Dragon,” and for them to ask me if I could come up with a way to integrate it into our show. And then, not only did we do that, but I believe, and a lot of our fans believe, and you can look at the ratings, like the IMDB of pro wrestling, Cagematch.net, it’s considered one of the best wrestling events of all time, the “House of the Dragon” we did just several weeks ago for them.”(H/T WrestlingInc.com)

Jay and Mark Briscoe are one of the most well known, decorated tag teams in the world on the indies right now. They have cemented their legacy within Ring of Honor, calling the company their home for many years. However, the duo has seemingly never been able to reach a mainstream audience due to a history of homophobic comments from Jay Briscoe.

Recently, rumors began swirling that the brothers were headed to AEW after the hiatus of ROH. However, it was reported that WarnerMedia had put an end to any hope that the Brisoce Brothers could potentially sign with AEW after the Tweets resurfaced.

“It should be stated that we’re not even sure of the interest on All Elite Wrestling’s part, but if was confirmed to us by WarnerMedia sources that a person of influence in the company did not want the duo signed to AEW, specifically due to Jay Briscoe’s homophobic tweets from 2013.” (H/T NoDQ.com)

The tag team had been feuding over social media and on the indies with FTR. Fans hoped that the feud could potentially continue in AEW, but that does not seem as if it will happen anytime soon.

Briscoe was recently a guest on the Battleground Podcast. He discussed the WarnerMedia report, then addressed his past remarks on the show stating that he regretted the comments that he made years ago.

“I want to say, thank you to the people who really know…we get labelled as homophobes. I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago, the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh*t I’ve ever done. I don’t want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can’t care for the Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can. I said some dumb sh*t a long time ago, I apologised for it and I’ll apologise for it again. It was stupid. I feel like now there are people who look at us like, ‘we can’t cheer for them because they hate a certain group of people.’ We don’t hate nobody. We love everybody. We’re just some country boys. I thought I was taking a stand for the Lord back in the day.” (H/T ringsidenews.com)

This isn’t the first time that Briscoe has apologised for his comments either. Would you ever like to see the Briscoe Brothers in AEW? Leave us a comment below.

After WWE made their comments about AEW’s street fight on Rampage, it seems WarnerMedia was not pleased by their comments.

The New Years Street Fight on Rampage with Anna Jay and Tay Conti versus Penelope Ford and The Bunny, was praised by fans across the wrestling fandom. The match involving the ladies was bloody and intense with multiple table spots, usage of chairs and thumbtacks, ended with Jay making The Bunny tap out through her “Queenslayer” submission to gain the victory for her and Conti.

After the match aired, WWE would make a comment to the Toronto Star about this type of match AEW had chose to broadcast to their viewers:

“If you look at the gory self-mutilation that bloodied several women in the December 31 event on TNT, it quickly becomes clear that these are very different businesses. We had an edgier product in the ‘Attitude” era and in a 2022 world, we don’t believe that type of dangerous and brutal display is appealing to network partners, sponsors, venues, children, or the general public as a whole”

(H/T – Torontostar.com)

Now, it is being reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), that WarnerMedia (Who broadcast AEW on their TV station’s TNT and TBS) are not pleased by the comments made by WWE. Meltzer stated that sources within WarnerMedia were “Upset” by the comments as well believe it was a “Personal Attack” on the company as a whole to effect their relationship with advertisers and their sales of advertisements.

WarnerMedia seems to be pleased with AEW’s progress as they sent out a public statement being pleased with AEW gathering over a million viewers with this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. The deal for AEW to air on WarnerMedia ends next year and with how AEW is progressing, will we see continue to see AEW broadcasted on WarnerMedia?

WWE superstar and future Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently teased a major announcement that would forever change his legacy. He was rumored to have had something in the works for a while, and now it has been revealed. As stated in the official press release, Rey has been in collaboration with studio ¡Viva Calavera! To produce a new cartoon series for Cartoon Network Latin America titled Rey Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad, which is slated to premiere some time next year.

The new show has been described as an action-comedy series. It will follow Rey and a wrestling fan named Oscar as they battle the forces of evil, both supernatural and wrestling-related. The show’s main antagonist will be a character named Uroboros, an evil individual described as a user of malevolent forces he has no understanding.

Vice President of Content and Original Productions, WarnerMedia Kids & Family, Latin America, spoke of this new venture at the press conference. “We are very excited to be able to share with Cartoon Network and Rey Mysterio fans more details and color of this incredible production made in Mexico. We are confident that you will enjoy the surprises we have in store and that the show will meet all your expectations.”

¡Viva Calavera! Founders The Skull Brothers also spoke of their new show. “To have an action-comedy series on Cartoon Network is a dream come true, that it puts Mexico and Lucha Libre at the center is even more, but that it has as its protagonist Rey Mysterio, whom we have admired since we were children, is simply indescribable. We believe that fans will greatly appreciate this new series, the result of the work and passion of so many people.” (H/T wrestlinginc.com)

It was noted at the release that the series would debut on Cartoon Network Latin America with ten episodes. However, no exact date for the premiere was released, only that it will be sometime next year. Although Rey Mysterio currently works for WWE, no mention of his employer was made at the press conference, indicating that they have no part in the series. As WWE does not own the Rey Mysterio name, the legendary luchador was likely to partake in this venture without their involvement. As of this writing, he has not made an official statement on the show.
