Last night on AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega defeated El Hijo del Vikingo in an international dream match. The two were originally supposed to wrestle a year ago in Mexico, but Omega had to bow out due to injury. In celebration of this match and his first match on AEW, El Hijo del Vikingo is today’s Wrestler of the Day.

As the son of wrestler King Vikingo, it was Hijo’s fate from the beginning to have a career in professional wrestling. At the ripe age of 14, he began training and wrestling for independent promotions in Mexico. In 2017, Hijo was part of a cadre of recruits who earned contracts with the Mexican wrestling giant, AAA. Initially, El Hijo del Vikingo paired with Laredo Kid and Myzteziz Jr. in pursuit of the AAA trios championships. He won that title twice as a part of this team. Although Laredo Kid left the group and was replaced by Golden Magic before the group won the titles again.

Despite this success in tag wrestling, singles competition is where his career really took off. After Kenny Omega vacated the Mega Championship due to injuries, Hijo won a five-way match at Triplemania Regia II to capture the belt for the first time. In his 470-plus days as champion, he has successfully defended the title four times. In addition to AEW, he has wrestled stateside for Impact, MLW, and CZW.

Sammy Guevara and his girlfriend Tay Conti tied the not last week in a ceremony attended by multiple AEW wrestlers. This comes two months after the pair announced their engagement in June.

They are currently set to face Dante Martin and Skye Blue for the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championships is Friday on Rampage. The couple originally won the titles at this year’s TripleMania XXX: Monteray, where they beat three other tag teams.

From the promotional graphics, it seems Conti has changed her last name in AEW, but not to Guevarra after her husband. Going forward it seems she will now be going by her real name, Tay Melo.

The two became heels about a month ago when Sammy and Tay came to the aid of Chris Jericho and the Jericho Appreciation Society. It made sense as they had lost favor with the fans who did not like their intimacy on screen.

Their ire also stemmed from rumors that Sammy’s previous engagement with longtime girlfriend Pamella Nizio had ended by Sammy having an affair with Tay. Fans will remember when Sammy proposed to Pam in the ring in August 2021.

Four months later, the two announced that they had ended their relationship. Ironically, Sammy and Tay’s wedding comes a year after Sammy’s proposal to Pam.

As of this writing, Sammy and Tay are feuding with Eddie Kingston and Ruby Soho. Eddie recently ended his longstanding feud with Chris Jericho, but it seems Sammy has picked it up.

For the first time since his arrest, Cain has now commented on the events that transpired on February 28. He posted a message of his gratitude to all who had supported him in Spanish from his official Twitter account, which was then translated to English.

“To everyone that has expressed your support, my family and I will never be able to thank you enough. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we are forever grateful for your love. Your selfless gestures and kind words have given me strength in my darkest times. This story is complex and slowly unraveling as we speak. To the true victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward. Though it is most difficult to relive the pain that has happened to you, in speaking the truth, justice will be served, and your own true healing will start. I will never stop helping or loving my community and all of you. Thank you for loving me.”

The former WWE star’s last wrestling appearance before his arrest was at Lucha Libre AAA’s TripleMania Regia in December of last year. The fighter-turned wrestler was set to make more appearances for the promotion in 2022 before his arrest. As things stand, he is currently facing up to 10 charges.

A new AAA Mega Champion has been crowned at AAA: TripleMania Regia 2021.

AAA luchador Hijo del Vikingo is the new Mega Champion of Lucha Libre AAA, originally slated to face off against All Elite Wrestling (AEW) wrestler and former AAA Mega Champion Kenny Omega for the title, Vikingo instead won the belt in a five way match, defeating Ring of Honor star Bandido, Samuray Del Sol and AEW stars Bobby Fish and Jay Lethal to win the championship at TripleMania Regia.

The match came to an end after Bandido took out Lethal and Fish on the floor with a dive, leaving Hijo del Vikingo and Samuray Del Sol alone in the ring. After knocking Del Sol off the top rope, Vikingo hit him with a springboard double jump moonsault, then followed it up with an inverted 450 Splash to pin Del Sol and win the Mega Championship. He was greeted by several AAA babyfaces after the match, who celebrated with him in the ring as the show ended.

At 24 years old, Hijo del Vikingo has become the youngest AAA Mega Champion in history, surpassing AEW star Rey Fenix, who won the AAA Mega Championship at 27 years old in 2018. Vikingo has also become the shortest luchador to ever hold the title at only 5’6 and 160 lbs.

FTR has retained their AAA World Tag Team Championships against the Lucha Brothers at AAA TripleMania Regia 2021.

Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood successfully defended their titles at TripleMania Regia, defeating their opponents the Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) in a ladder match, with the assistance of their manager, Vickie Guerrero who accompanied them for their trip down to Mexico for the match.

The match ended with Harwood grabbing the titles after Guerrero threw some type of powder into Penta’s eyes, sending the luchador tumbling off the ladder and through a table below him. The two teams had earlier confronted each other, however it ended up leading to a brawl before security separated them.

This is FTR’s second defence of the AAA World Tag Team Championships. Harwood and Wheeler had previously defended the championships on AEW Dynamite, defeating the team of AAA luchador Aero Star and the luchador Samuray Del Sol (Formerly Kalisto in WWE).

No word has been given on when FTR would be returning to Mexico to defend the titles in the future.
