After months of haitus, it looks like fans can look forward to seeing Jon Moxley back in a wrestling ring very soon.

Neither GCW nor Mox himself has confirmed anything yet. However, fans are speculating that we will see Mox back in action after Homicide won a Do or Die Rumble for a shot at the GCW World Championship. It makes sense for this match to go down at GCW’s The WRLD On GCW event on January 23 at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

At GCW’s Die 4 This pay-per-view this weekend, Homicide defeated Atticus Cogar, Gray, Jordan Oliver, Dark Sheik, Shane Mercer, Tony Deppen, Jack Cartwheel, Dante Leon, Ninja Mack, Nick Wayne, Matthew Justice, Cole Radrick, Allie Katch, G-Raver, Colby Corino, Billie Starkz, PCO, and Grim Reefer.

If Jon Moxley vs. Homicide does happen on January 23rd, this will be Moxley’s first appearance since going into inpatient alcohol treatment. Since Tony Khan first broke the news of Moxley’s absence, Khan has said: “I’ve talked to Renee (Paquette, Moxley’s wife) pretty much every day. And it seems like Jon’s doing better, which is great news for everybody. It’s great news for the fans, and especially for Jon and Renee, and for his friends of which I am one.”

So it seems that Mox is doing better and is physically and mentally more healthy. As fans, that is all we can hope for. Whenever Mox does choose to return, it’s no doubt that he will be stronger and better than ever. The prospect that his first match back will be against his long-term friends and fellow death match wrestler, Homicide, is incredibly exciting as well.

It is also interesting to speculate on what Moxley does next. Before his hiatus, Moxley was in the slow process of a heel turn in the AEW World Championship Elimination Tournament. He then had to be pulled from the tournament before the semi-finals and was replaced with Miro.

On September 24th, on AEW Rampage in the Arthur Ashe stadium, we saw the AEW debut of the legend, Homicide.  He showed up to help out his long-term friends Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston in their lights out match against Lance Archer and Minoru Suzuki. It was to also help further Homicide’s feud against Minoru Suzuki. Homocide had a match with Minoru Suzuki the following weekend in Ring of Honor.

Talking with Sam Roberts on Not Sam Wrestling, Homicide thinks back on his appearance and what it means to him. He said, “I had a dream and my dream just shut down. My dream was MSG [Madison Square Garden]. Then I did All Elite Wrestling and I wrestled at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Mind you, it was just a visit. I came to just visit my friends and they told me, ‘You’re doing something today.’ ‘No, I’m not doing anything.’ I was so appreciative and grateful that they were like, ‘No, you’re doing something.’ The last match of the night. Lance Archer and Minoru Suzuki, who is a legend among legends, against my pals Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley.”

Furthermore, He goes on to talk about the emotion he felt right before his appearance: “It didn’t even hit me. What hit me was behind the scenes, Eddie did a little speech that his mother was there and he made it. Suddenly, Frank Sinatra came on, it was ‘New York, New York,’ and that’s when it hit me. Forget about my dream at MSG, I’m here. This is my moment. 20,000 people, I couldn’t believe it. ...It was one of the biggest moments of my life. I wanted to do something where I came out through the audience like Stone Cold Steve Austin got arrested for jumping out. They were like, ‘No, we have music for you. We have a titantron with your name on it.’ ‘Are you kidding me?’ They did it. I’m not gonna say no to the boss. It was phenomenal”.

Clearly, this moment meant a lot to Homicide. New York is his home. Later, he talks about how the appearance at Arthur Ashe was the perfect substitute for his dream of Madison Square Garden and AEW found the perfect way to do it.

In an interview with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Eddie Kingston said it was Moxley’s idea to have Homicide involved in the match. The three have a decade-long history involved with each other on the independent scene. Of course, everyone knows the complicated friendship that Eddie and Mox share, going as far back as 2010 in CZW. Homicide has wrestled with Mox for just as long. In 2010, they wrestled while in feuding factions in Dragon Gate USA.

Likewise, Eddie Kingston and Homicide also share a decade-long history, starting in early 2012 in Jersey All Pro Wrestling when they debuted as a tag team and won the vacant JAPW Tag Team Championship. They continued to be a tag team in 2013 in Ring of Honor.

More recently, Homicide has been wrestling with Ring of Honor and some independent companies. and has been working behind the scenes as a producer for NWA. Hopefully, Homicide can continue to have these heartwarming moments in this sport that he loves so much for as long as he is involved in wrestling.
