Another Super 8 season is among us. The annual Super 8 Tournament that is held by the ECWA (East Coast Wrestling Association) is taking place on March 25th in Morganville New Jersey. The Super 8 tournament which was first held in 1997 features eight of the very best on the Independent circuit. This year’s participants include Andino, JGeorge, Ryan Mooney, Channing Thomas, Joey Ace, Sam Shields, Ellis Taylor, and Rick Recon.
The History of the Super 8
The Super 8 Tournament was founded in 1997 and Ace Darling was the inaugural winner. The eight-man tournament has been notorious for jumpstarting many professional wrestling careers. Notable names such as Xavier Woods (WWE), AJ Styles (WWE), Matt and Jeff Hardy (AEW), and Christopher Daniels have participated in the Super 8 and have achieved great success afterward with major wrestling promotions. Christopher Daniels is the only two-time winner of the Super 8. Darius Carter won the tournament last year.

Andino
A rising star from the Grapitol Region (a.k.a. Washington DC) Andino made his wrestling debut in 2018. Along with being a military veteran, he is the current Chocolate City Champion and the SWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion. Notable promotions include F1ght Club, 1CW, SWA, and EWA.
JGeorge
JGeorge made his wrestling debut in 2013. Along with being the former Mayhem Medal holder at Create-A-Pro, he is internationally traveled and a top pick to win the Super 8. Notable promotions include Pro Wrestling Magic, Wrestling Open, Blitzkrieg Pro, and Immortal Championship Wrestling to name a few.
Ryan Mooney
Known as the Rabid Honey Badger, Ryan Mooney made his wrestling debut in 2017. Notable promotions include AEW Dark, Ring of Honor, MCW, Limitless Wrestling, and Wrestlepro among others.
Channing Thomas
The World Class Athlete made his wrestling debut in 2017. He is the current Live Pro Heavyweight Champion. A New England star on the rising with a future ahead of him, other notable promotions he has appeared at include AEW Dark, Limitless Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Grind.
Joey Ace
You cannot talk about ECWA without mentioning Joey Ace. The Five Star Stud made his wrestling debut in 2009. He is a 3X ECWA Heavyweight Champion and has also held the ECWA Legacy Championship. He has appeared on WWE and AEW. Other promotions include Warriors Of Wrestling where he has held numerous championships and Wrestling Open.
Sam Shields
The Machine made his wrestling debut in 2004. Along with Joey Ace, Shields has held numerous ECWA Championships. Other promotions include SWF, Warriors of Wrestling, and Colossal Championship Wrestling to name a few.
Ellis Taylor
Known as the Blood Diamond, Ellis Taylor made his wrestling debut in 2016. He has held the Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment Tag Team Championship alongside Charlie Tiger. Other notable promotions he frequents include GCW and JCW.
Rick Recon
Rick Recon made his wrestling debut in 2016. He won the 2022 King of ISPW Tournament and has also held the TCW Middleweight Championship. Recon has also appeared on AEW Dark.
