WWE’s Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and the Bloodline have been awarded the Wrestling Republic’s Storyline of the Year Award for 2023.
The storyline involving long-time friends Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens standing up together against reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and The Bloodline have received many praises from Wrestling Republic staff throughout the entire year, earning five star rating matches in the WR scale in almost every important chapter of the story.
This storyline was more than a year in the making and featured a great work in the rising tensions between all the superstars involved, before culminating in the main event of WrestleMania 39 Night One and setting the base of the Bloodline Civil War.
Former AEW World Champion MJF and Adam Cole’s ‘Brochachos For Life’ and the ‘Bloodline Civil War’ storylines were the runners up in this category, which Zayn, Owens and The Bloodline ultimately won after a vote conducted by Wrestling Republic’s esteemed voting committee.
The Voting Committee Reasonings For The Choice:
“The beginning of the year created so much momentum with Sami Zayn and the bloodline, and the first PLE of the year had one of the biggest angles of the year,” said Wrestling Republic’s Head of Reviewing Coby Galenzoski. “Sami Zayn’s rise to the top of WWE was undeniable with the magical moments at the Rumble, in Quebec for the chamber and at WrestleMania 39. This story clearly had a satisfying ending with the main event of WrestleMania Saturday.”
Wrestling Republic’s Opinion Writer Bailey Jackson explained he voted for this storyline because “it’s the culmination of a year of storytelling.” He also explained that “Sami Zayn saved the Bloodline story and gave it so much new life. It resulted in an amazing WrestleMania main event, amazing storytelling, and it made a star in Sami Zayn. Truly some of the most heart-wrenching and well-done storytelling the WWE has done in years.”
Wrestling Republic Owner Ben Allison backed this up by stating that “while the story started in 2022, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens’ storyline with the Bloodline came to a phenomenal conclusion in 2023, and will go down as one of my favorite storylines since I started watching wrestling.”

With the great success all these man had in 2023, and with the huge ambitions they all have as well, fans could expect to see more exciting matches and moments in 2024, perhaps with championship gold involved.
