AEW are facing considerable backlash after the debut of Sabu, due to his past racist, sexist and homophobic comments resurfacing.
AEW fans were left in shock during this weeks episode of AEW Dynamite, when Sabu made an unexpected appearance. However, this unexpected debut brought to light a series of controversies surrounding the ECW Original that AEW was likely unprepared for.
Back in 2018, Sabu found himself embroiled in a heated exchange with Renee Paquette, and his remarks during that incident did not cast him in a favorable light. Resurfaced tweets from that time revealed offensive language, with one since deleted tweet stating, “She is the 1st non fg, but she is one of many cck s*ckers.” Naturally, fans vehemently criticized him for those remarks, and this particular tweet gained significant attention once again.
Moreover, journalist Ryan Satin took to Twitter to remind fans of an article published by Pro Wrestling Sheet in 2016, in which Sabu had used a racial slur directed towards Taz, showing no remorse for his actions.
When approached for comment, Sabu responded, defending his offensive language by stating, “Grow up every one is a little bit racist. Even ur mother.” He added, “I am not a racist but I don’t care if a n***er that called me a drug addict thinks so.”
Khan has previously brought in controversial figures, and some of them have had questionable histories. Only time will tell how frequently Sabu will appear in AEW, but he is currently booked for Double or Nothing.
The inclusion of Sabu in Adam Cole’s corner at Double or Nothing has created a buzz among fans, with numerous tweets surfacing regarding the situation. Fans voiced their concerns, highlighting the contrast between Sabu’s involvement and Hulk Hogan’s banishment from AEW due to his own racist remarks.
During a conference call for Double or Nothing, Tony Khan addressed the Sabu situation. The AEW President indicated that Sabu’s appearance would likely be a one-off, restricted to the upcoming event. However, Khan also expressed openness to the possibility of Sabu making future guest appearances if the initial showing goes well. He shared a personal anecdote about his father reminiscing via text message about attending a Sabu vs. Chris Jericho match in ECW when Tony was just 13 years old.
With Sabu now in the picture, the wrestling community eagerly awaits to see how his presence will impact the match between Chris Jericho and Adam Cole at Double or Nothing. Regardless, his debut has already generated significant attention and headlines.
