4. Matt Jackson Throws Shots At WWE & Jim Cornette on Being The Elite
On this weeks edition of ‘Being The Elite’ the episode ended with one half of the AEW Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks, Matt Jackson cutting a promo on Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston ahead of their tag team championship match at the upcoming AEW Double or Nothing PPV, which takes place from a full capacity Daily’s Place on May 30th.
During the promo Matt Jackson ‘threw a shot’ towards wrestling promotions who have two singles wrestlers as tag team champions.
Throughout WWE history it has become almost a tradition for two singles competitors to become tag team champions at least once a year, often leading to one of competitors turning on the other, culminating in a big blow off match between the two on a PPV. While many fans have defended this and even praised it for creating many memorable storylines over the years, some fans have often criticised this and claimed it takes away from long term tag teams in the division. When AEW launched many fans hoped that considering the focus the company was putting into the tag division, this wouldn’t be the case in AEW, however it quickly became clear it was when Kenny Omega and Hangman Page won the titles.
During the promo Matt Jackson also took a shot at Jim Cornette by referring to him as an ‘industry blackballed shock jock’
In full Jackson said “At Double or Nothing, when we beat you two, because we will, this isn’t any other wrestling organization where the two big singles stars team up to beat the tag champs. I can already visualize the anti-Young Bucks hate tweets, the GIFs, the memes body-shaming us talking about hairlines and ages calling us mean-spirited nicknames from industry-blackballed shock jocks. Its all just noise anyway, right? Noise we can’t even hear at this point because we decided to hit the mute button on the world a very long time ago.” (H/T Ringside News)
