The no-disqualification fight pitted ‘Death Match’ wrestler Nick Gage against Chris Jericho, who used a pizza cutter among other weapons. During the game, TNT ran a Picture-In-Picture advertisement, which happened to be for Dominos Pizza.
Following Nick Gage’s use of a pizza cutter on Chris Jericho’s forehead during last night’s AEW Dynamite main event, Domino’s Pizza has made a statement.
According to Front Office Sports, Domino’s was apparently unaware of the pizza cutter aspect and threatened to withdraw future advertising from the show. Here’s a statement from Domino’s about this situation
“We share the concerns expressed about this incident and the content of this TV-14 rated program, and are assessing our advertising presence on it going forward,” spokeswoman Jenny Fouracre-Petko told Front Office Sports.
Reading between the lines, it appears that Domino’s is worried not just with the violent television scene, but also with the possibility that some fans may assume the company had a hand in the ad’s placement so near to a pizza-related attack in the ring.
While Domino’s wasn’t pleased with how the situation played out, wrestling fans appreciated the comic timing of the occasion. However, it’s logical that Domino’s would want to make it obvious that placing their product next to a pizza-related wrestling match was not their idea.
