The reigning AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy has defeated House of Black’s Buddy Matthews in a very intense match and scored another huge title defense.
‘Freshly Squeezed’ Orange Cassidy has been on a hell of a ride as the AEW International Champion. Ever since winning the title from ‘The Bastard’ PAC a few months ago, Orange Cassidy moved on to defend his title almost every week against some tough competitors.
And tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite was no exception, since the reigning AEW International Champion met one of his toughest tests in the likes of Buddy Matthews, who is currently one third of the AEW World Trios Champions ‘House of Black’.
Matthews, who laid out a challenge to Orange Cassidy during last Friday’s edition of AEW Rampage, took the champ to his limits and got really close of becoming the new AEW International Champion.
During the match, Matthews laid out a vicious offense on Cassidy’s injured hand and delivered some big shots to the champion. However, ‘Freshly Squeezed’ managed to endure Matthews’ attacks and got him in a Mousetrap pin to secure the win.
With this win, Orange Cassidy has completed his 18th successfull title defense and continues to prove everyone that it will take a lot to get the AEW International Title from him. Opponents the caliber of Rey Fenix, Katsuyori Shibata, Jay Lethal, RUSH and Jake Hager have tried, but no one suceeded in dethroning the reigning champion.
It is yet to be seen who his next challenger will be, but the only thing sure is that we can all expect to see more intense and entertaining battles for the AEW International Title in the near future.
