New Japan Pro-Wrestling and World Wonder Ring Stardom have announced the creation of the IWGP Women’s Title, which will have its first champion crowned at their upcoming joint event.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling and World Wonder Ring Stardom are undoubtedly the most famous pro wrestling promotions in Japan.
Both companies, which are currently owned by the Bushiroad Group, have been the home of many talented pro wrestlers that have found a huge success in Japan and the rest of the world.
NJPW and STARDOM have grown in a huge way during the last couple years, which has recently reached new heights with the announcement of their first-ever NJPW x STARDOM joint event taking place from the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, on November 20.
However, during yesterday’s STARDOM Strategy Meeting, both companies announced the creation of the brand-new IWGP Women’s Championship, accompanied by the news that the first champion will be crowned at their upcoming joint event.
The announcement also revealed that this title was created in order for STARDOM to be able to participate in NJPW events outside of Japanese territory, as stated by NJPW President Takami Ohbari at their previous business and strategy meetings.
STARDOM’s official English Twitter account has also clarified that, even though it was created to be defended in NJPW events outside of Japan, this new championship will also be on the line in STARDOM’s most important events of the year.
They also explained that the new title does not change the importance and prestige of the other championships in the joshi promotion, which will continue to feature the World of Stardom and the Wonder of Stardom titles as the company’s top prizes.
Just announced in today's Stardom 2022 Strategy Meeting:

✪ The IWGP Women's Championship!
★ NJPW and Stardom are creating this title for defenses not only in Japan but also in the US on New Japan Pro Wrestling events, appealing to the world with the rich IWGP history!
The IWGP Women's championship is for NJPW events. It's possible that it could be defended on big Stardom events though.

Stardom's main title remains the World of Stardom title (the Red Belt) along with the Wonder of Stardom title (the White Belt).
As of right now, both NJPW and STARDOM are celebrating their most important tournaments of the year, which are the G1 Climax and the 5-Star Grand Prix, respectively.
So, it is undeniable that Japanese wrestling has risen to new heights during these past years and, after this groundbreaking announcement, it will continue to rise in the coming years.
