STARDOM has revealed the final match of the IWGP Women’s Title Tournament, which will feature Mayu Iwatani and KAIRI.
It was a few months ago that New Japan Pro-Wrestling and STARDOM announced the creation of the brand-new IWGP Women’s Championship.
During the press conference, both companies announced the IWGP Women’s Championship was created to be defended in NJPW events around the world, as well as in STARDOM’s most important events. Additionally, they also revealed the IWGP Women’s Title Tournament would possess an International bracket and a Japanese bracket.
So, just a month after the beginning of the Tournament, we finally know that Mayu Iwatani and KAIRI (FKA Kairi Sane in WWE) will be competing in the finals to crown the first ever IWGP Women’s Champion.
The leader of the STARS unit defeated Oedotai’s Momo Watanabe in the QF, before surpassing a huge challenge from Queen’s Quest leader Utami Hayashishita in the semifinals last night.
Meanwhile, KAIRI competed in the international side of the Tournament, where she received a first-round bye and defeated “Alpha Female” Jazzy Gabbert in the semifinals.
Mayu & KAIRI, A Final With A Lot Of History For The IWGP Women’s Title
It is important to mention that both Mayu and Kairi have a lot of history together. About this, we can mention that both women are undoubtedly two of the best talents that came out from STARDOM. Additionally, we can also say that they are two of the most decorated stars in the history of the company.
Mayu is the second-ever STARDOM Grand Slam Champion, as well as winning the Cinderella Tournament (2015 & 2016), the Goddesses Tag League (2015) and the 5★STAR Grand Prix (2018). Meanwhile KAIRI has won every championship except for the Highspeed Title and the SWA Title. She has also won the 5★STAR Grand Prix (2015) and the Goddesses Tag League (2016).
However, the most important fact is that both women know each other so well. Mainly because they were Artists of Stardom Trios Champions, alongside now WWE Superstar IYO SKY.
So, there is no doubt that we’ll be in a for a very good match. We will find out who will become the first-ever IWGP Women’s Champion at the upcoming NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over event.
