WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently spoke on his Kurt Angle Show podcast and discussed his admiration for current Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. He also vented his frustration with how the Japanese star has been utilized in the past couple of years, saying, “I love his passion for the sport, love his character and think he’s hilarious. Every time he comes out, the fans go crazy. It’s crazy that the company hasn’t utilized him more, the way he should be utilized. I’m really surprised, but I think it may be a little bit of the language barrier. That might be one of the reasons, but he covers that with the way he portrays himself and the things he says. He doesn’t have to know English. He’s entertaining as it is. So, I’m not sure why they don’t utilize him the way he should be utilized.” (H/T Wrestlinginc.com)
This past Sunday, Shinsuke faced the United States Champion Damien Priest on the pre-show for Survivor Series and won via disqualification when Priest assaulted both him and Rick Boogs with the latter’s guitar. This move was interpreted as a heel turn, but it remains to be confirmed as he had confrontations with two heels this past Monday on Raw.
Fans will remember that Shinsuke was introduced into the WWE title picture very early into his main roster run, competing against the likes of Jinder Mahal and AJ Styles before turning heel. He also became the first Japanese-born star to win the Royal Rumble match. He was relegated to the mid-card after his heel turn and remains there today. His subsequent face turn and partnership with Boogs over the past year has seen the stars rise in popularity over this past year. He is currently feuding with Los Lotharios on SmackDown, with Boogs serving as his tag team partner.
