According to a recent report for The Wrestling Observer, Kenny Omega told the AEW locker room he wouldn’t have hired most of them.
A few months have passed since many pro wrestling websites informed about some backstage issues were happening in the AEW locker room. With many reports about some of the company’s top stars asking for their release, and the recent backstage brawl between CM Punk and The Elite, as the main prove of that.
All of this, and perhaps the pressure of WWE’s newest direction, led AEW President and CEO Tony Khan to call for a talent meeting a few weeks ago.
The first reports stated that Tony Khan spoke to the roster about how he expects things will go better with the changes in AEW’s Talent Relations team. However, a recent report from The Wrestling Observer Newsletter informs of a possible new controversy that involves Kenny Omega.
As noted on the report, Kenny Omega wanted to have a ‘pep talk’ with the rest of the roster, but ended up making some comments that caused frustration to some of the AEW talents.
The controversy started when, apparently, Omega said during the meeting that ‘he wouldn’t have hired eight out of ten of the talents in attendance.’
Even though these are some controversial comments, some say that Omega was simply joking at the moment. The main reason to believe that is because- according to some of the talents- Omega was looking at NJPW’s Will Ospreay while making these comments.
How Did The AEW Roster React To Kenny Omega’s Comments?
About this, the main belief is that Kenny Omega’s comments led many talents to be very upset and frustrated. Meanwhile, others think of it as just a misunderstanding.
However, the report also states that the former AEW World Champion praised AEW’s current backstage status. He said that the AEW locker room has more positivity now than when the whole AEW project started.
