Reportedly ‘The Cleaner‘ could potentially leave AEW early next year having only recently returned from suspension.
It has been reported that Omega could leave Tony Khan’s promotion with his contract is set to expire next year thus making him a free agent by February 2023. However he may not be the only member of The Elite potentially leaving according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Will Kenny Omega Be Leaving AEW?
Omega has been with AEW since it’s inception both as an active wrestler and as EVP (Executive Vice President) along with fellow Elite members Matt and Nick Jackson. Dave Meltzer made the following statement in regards to Omega potentially leaving:
Omega has been with AEW since its inception both as an active wrestler and as EVP (Executive Vice President) along with fellow Elite members Matt and Nick Jackson and even though his contract looks set to expire towards the end of January 2023 according to Dave Meltzer he may be waiting for The Young Bucks contract also to expire (The Young Bucks confirmed that they have extended their contract until 2024) before deciding on his own future. Meltzer stated:
“I think that they probably all want to expire around the same time, and whatever they do next would be — I mean they could split and make different decisions — but my gut says that they’ll probably be a package deal.”
There is the chance that Kenny Omega has already signed an extension which has yet to be announced. Meltzer added:
“I do not know that there’s been a new deal, and I don’t think there’s been,”
The Elite are currently feuding with Death Triangle (Penta, Rey Fenix and PAC) in a Best of 7 Series for the Trios Titles with match 5 set to take place. They are currently 3-1 down at the time of writing with the next match to be a NO DQ match set to take place on the December 21st episode of AEW Dynamite.
