Former WWE Superstar Kairi Sane, now known simply as KAIRI, has finally made her long-awaited return to the squared circle at Stardom’s World Climax event.
KAIRI returned to the ring to team up with her former tag team partner Mayu Iwatani to defeat the team of Tam Nakano & Unagi Sayaka, at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan.
KAIRI signed with WWE back in 2017 and defeated Shayna Baszler to become the winner of the first Mae Young Classic, earning a shot at the prestigious NXT Women’s Championship. She would end up winning the title at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn 4 by defeating Baszler again, but ended up losing it to her 71 days later at WWE Evolution.
She also had a short run on the main roster, which saw her team up with Asuka to become the longest reigning Women’s Tag Team Champions in 2019, with a record 180-day title reign. However, between August 2020 and May 2021, their record was surpassed by Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler, who reached 215 days as champions but in two separate title reigns.
Sane hasn’t wrestled since last July, after returning to her hometown to spend more time with her family. During this time, she also served as WWE’s Ambassador and trainer in Japan, while also being a commentator for some WWE events.
Her WWE contract expired in February and she decided to not re-sign, also opening her own gym in Japan as well as starting to train looking forward to her in-ring return.
