After last night’s Double or Nothing, Jade Cargill talks about the debuting Stokely Hathaway, who helped her retain her title.
Wrestling fans at AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view were treated to the debuts of two former NXT stars. The first being Stokely Hathaway (FKA Malcolm Bivens), who distracted Anna Jay, allowing Jade Cargill to retain the TBS Championship.
The second debuting star was Athena (FKA Ember Moon), arriving to face off against the Baddies with Jay and Kris Statlander. This confrontation may be the start of a developing feud between the groups, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Jade Cargill spoke at the AEW Double or Nothing post-show media scrum after the pay-per-view about the debut of Hathaway.
“He’s the best talker in the game. Who would want anything less than that? Somebody to represent a superstar that’s about to just come forth in front of all you guys’ eyes.”
Fans will remember that WWE released Hathaway last month, with his 90-day non-compete clause ending just recently. The star said that he would be stepping away from wrestling for a bit, but it seems that time ended.
Tony Khan also spoke, sticking to his claim of never speaking to released stars until their non-compete clauses expired.
“It was pretty unusual, Stokely’s 90 days expired yesterday. I’ve never met him or spoken to him until today. I’ve had him in mind since 2018, actually,” Khan said, “I remember being way back in the day, actually with Cody (Rhodes), and I was saying ‘I really like Stokely Hathaway. I’m a big fan of him.’ I wanted to pair him with the world’s greatest network champion, the world’s top undefeated wrestler two years in with such a sparkling record.” (H/T Wrestlinginc.com)
