Dominion, which was initially set on June 6 at Osaka Jo Hall, will now be held one night later on June 7.
The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship has been vacant since May 20, when NJPW announced that previous champion Will Ospreay had relinquished the belt to seek treatment for a neck issue in the United Kingdom. NJPW has announced that Kazuchika Okada will face Shingo Takagi for the vacant IWGP World Heavyweight Title.
Wrestle Grand Slam in the Tokyo Dome, where Okada was set to battle Ospreay for the championship on Saturday, May 29, has been postponed indefinitely. Shingo lost to Ospreay for the championship at Wrestling Dontaku on May 4, but he beat Okada in the New Japan Cup this year.
Two extra matchups have been announced for Dominion, in addition to the IWGP World Championship bout.
The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship will be defended by El Desperado against YOH. The bout was originally slated for Wrestling Dontaku on May 4, however, it was canceled due to COVID-19 guidelines. Desperado later admitted to having fought COVID.
In May, both Okada and Desperado disclosed that they had tested positive for COVID. Wrestling Dontaku resulted in nine NJPW wrestlers testing positive for COVID.
The other Dominion bout is Kota Ibushi vs. Jeff Cobb. Cobb layout Ibushi after Ibushi lost the IWGP World championship to Ospreay in the first angle for this match, which was shot at Sakura Genesis in April.
