In a continuation of the storyline between Mercedes Martinez and the members of Tian Sha, this week’s edition of NXT featured a mixed tag team match. It was Martinez and one time ally Jake Atlas versus Xia Li and Boa, as the curious being known as Mei Ying watched ominously from the ramp.
The match that unfolded was very interesting and a solid match, once again pushing the narrative that Martinez has a problem with Mei Ying, as well as the unknown factor surrounding her. However a seemingly normal spot is what is noteworthy tonight.
The finish of the match saw a somewhat distracted Mercedes Martinez take an impressive spinning heel kick from Xia Li, an advanced move that not everyone can do, however a move she’s done plenty before. Now Xia in reality, is a trained combat sports and martial arts athlete. In this instance, it seems as though she caught Mercedes a little too hard on the head.
Either way it was the finish of the match, but not the result any fan wants to see. Mercedes did an odd type of kickout thing that was just awkward, but the match was quickly stopped as there was obviously something wrong.
From experience, though I do not want to speculate, but I know any possibility of a head injury is worth taking seriously and WWE will do a great job of that. Also, despite her badass persona, Mercedes is a very cool and down to earth person I’ve had the privilege of speaking to before, so I hope along with the NXT universe that she’ll be alright.
