As Regal’s in-ring career began winding down, a friend of his was given a position of power in the company and he wanted him as his right-hand man. That friend was Triple H, see their friendship goes way back to 1994 in WCW. At the time, Triple H was only wrestling for a few years at this point and the veteran Regal took him under his wing and Triple H never forgot what Regal did for him. Their friendship and bond over the years made Triple H convinced that Regal was the right man along with himself and Dusty Rhodes to truly make NXT into something special.

For the remainder of his WWE run, he was the TV General Manager creating memorable moments with the future stars of the business. Behind the scenes he would mentor talent at the PC and scout talent all over the world. So many talents in this business love and respect him. With Triple H’s apparent loss of power and change in NXT’s direction many of the people Triple H brought in were shown the door including Regal. Personally, I count this without a doubt the dumbest release WWE has made this past year and why he still never received a WWE HOF induction either for his in-ring career or behind the scenes contributions is a travesty.
Even though he was likely shocked and hurt by the release, he still showed professionalism, class and humility in his statement about it:
