I seriously adore Thunder Rosa since her NWA days, her passion for wrestling is noticeable while her character development continues to grow with each feud she has throughout various promotions.
When AEW bought Rosa’s NWA contract I was intrigued because she would finally have the chance to show her talents to a wider audience, and it should be said that she more than surpassed expectations with feuds against the likes of Britt Baker where she proved to be one of the best women in the AEW roster has.
I had always said that Thunder Rosa was destined to beat Britt Baker to win the AEW women’s championship and everything leading up to that win was amazing, yet the aftermath has been very underwhelming, to say the least.
Since winning the women’s belt, Rosa’s reign has barely meant anything besides having a feud against Serena Deep and Marina Shafir that, despite her best efforts, barely demonstrates why Rosa is the rightful champion and a credible threat for the rest of the roster.
It is odd because its male counterparts and even the tag-team championships have consistent TV time, while Rosa is just seen as an afterthought even when compared to the TBS women’s belt. The lack of TV time makes Rosa lose credibility to the point where even her biggest supporter might start to not be interested in her anymore, all because of how the promotion is booking her reign as champion.
Thunder Rosa has it all, charisma, in-ring ability, and most importantly the support from tons of AEW fans that want her reign as champion to be a success. It is not too late to change course for the better, but this should have not happened from the start.
The latest title defense Thunder Rosa had been against Toni Storm during Forbidden Door, they did give fans an amazing match as both competitors are amazing, but it has to be said that such a match might sadly be overshadowed once again by other matches that took place on the event as well.
In reality, many had wished for Storm to win the belt since they believe that Rosa’s run has been underwhelming, yet we saw her retain, which shows that the promotion has some belief that they might be able to do more with her reign.
If I am honest, there is no way of knowing whether Rosa’s run will be amazing in the end, but I hope that those behind the scenes understand that they have one of the best talents in its women’s division that can take the company to new heights if treated well.
